Work Arrangement:
Onsite: This position requires an employee to be on-site on a full-time basis.
The Team:
The Environmental Operations Team consists of highly trained environmental professionals who serve as a first line resource for our manufacturing and non-manufacturing business partners. We are proficient at implementing robust environmental and sustainability practices into daily business decisions and operations in order to comply with applicable environmental laws and regulations while fostering community connection. We work collaboratively in the Sustainable Workplaces team with our service suppliers, community partners, regulatory agencies, environmental consultants, and legal staff.
What You’ll Do:
At GM Sustainable Workplaces, we are committed to creating places that people want to be. As an environmental engineering intern, you will work closely with the facility environmental engineer(s) developing an understanding of environmental compliance in automotive manufacturing and non-manufacturing operations. You will be a part of project implementation and continuous improvement of various water, waste, and air programs. We are committed to developing innovative solutions to various environmental challenges as we advance towards GM’s vision of Zero Crashes, Zero Emissions, and Zero Congestions. How You’ll Make an Impact:
You will work cross functionally with diverse groups to create and implement best-in-class, sustainable solutions to improve environmental compliance and sustainability across the site.
Examples may include:
Supporting/implementing Zero Waste projects to drive GM’s vision of Zero, Zero, Zero
Assisting with compliance reporting (air, water, waste)
Conducting compliance inspections
Identifying/supporting process improvements to reduce environmental impacts of operational processes
Coordinating/assisting with wildlife habitat and community outreach projects

Required Qualifications:
Pursuit of a Bachelor’s degree in one of the following areas: Environmental Engineering, Environmental Health or Science, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or Sustainability
Must be graduating between December 2025 and May 2028
Able to work fulltime, 40 hours per week

Compensation:
The salary range for this role is $3,500-$4,900, dependent upon class status and degree.
GM will provide a one-time lump sum taxable stipend payment to eligible students selected for the 2025 Student Program.
