Provides expert patient care and acts as a clinical resource to staff. Assists nursing staff in the development, implementation and evaluation of nursing care and treatment for patients in an assigned area. Maintains quality standards in patient care established by UMMC and the nursing profession. May act as Charge Nurse. Delegates patient care to auxiliary personnel. Consults with medical and other health care staff regarding patient care. Routinely works with vendors and other departments. This job profile may require call subject to the department's discretion.Education & Experience
Must be licensed as RN for one (1) year. Two (2) years of RN experience in specified area preferred. BSN preferred

Certifications, Licenses or Registration Required: Valid RN license. CNOR Preferred.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Knowledge of staff nursing care procedures and protocols. Demonstrates excellent verbal/written communication and interpersonal skills. Knowledge and understanding of computer systems, tools and programs. Ability to work in a team environment.
Responsibilities:
1. The overall function of this role is to provide leadership to Operating Room Staff, under the direction of the Nurse Manager, and act as a resource to staff, attending, and resident physicians.
2. In conjunction with Nurse Manager and/or Charge Nurse, reviews daily case schedule and helps assign staff to OR’s based on skill/experience.
3. Works with vendors and Materials Management staff to ensure that supplies, instrumentation and implants are available for the cases assigned service.
4. May act as preceptor within service. Works collaboratively with Educator to ensure that orientees have an appropriate orientation to the service.
5. May function as Charge Nurse. Responsible for providing input into hiring decisions, disciplinary actions, and annual performance evaluations.
6. Responsible for the overall organization of assigned service. Assists with achievement of surgical efficiency metrics (on-time case starts, short turnover times, cost containment, etc.). Responsible for preference card development and maintenance for assigned service.
7. Assists Nurse Manager with annual evaluation of employees within service line.
8. Assists Perioperative Leadership with the draft, review and revision of surgical policies and procedures.
9. Works collaboratively with Managers, Directors, and ACNO to maintain a state of regulatory readiness. This includes maintaining a clean environment, keeping equipment and supplies in safe working order.
10. Acts as a role model for staff in terms of leadership, critical thinking, follow up and follow through.
11. Works collaboratively with physicians in such areas as capital budget planning and acquisition, educating staff, and achievement of service-specific quality goals.
12. In conjunction with Lead Techs, works collaboratively with Sterile Processing Department to develop and revise instruments sets and address processing issues.
