Inpatient opportunities in the UHealth Tower for the following:

  • Medical Surgical Telemetry, Orthopedics and Neurosurgery Stepdown, Neurology, Cardiothoracic Stepdown, Surgical Urology, Cardiac Telemetry, Head and Neck, ICU, IMCU, Oncology, Progressive Care Unit, Respiratory Stepdown.

Education:

  • Student actively enrolled in a nationally accredited Baccalaureate Nursing Program

  • Junior or senior year of nursing program

  • In good standing with the School of Nursing

Certification and Licensing:

  • Valid BLS certification from the American Heart Association​

Required Documentation to be submitted with job application:

Primary Functions:

  • Responds to patient calls, anticipates patient needs, and assures patient safety and comfort through regular rounds, environmental maintenance and other appropriate safety measures.  Records vital signs and intake and output when requested and reports any changes observed in the condition or behavior of patients and any unusual incidents/problems.  Provides for patients’ personal hygiene, AM and PM care; weighing, linen, and bed changes.

  • Assists the patient with dressing/undressing, placing the patient’s belongings and clothing in the appropriate drawers and closets as observed by the nurse. Assists with care such as positioning patients, lifting and turning patients with proper body mechanic as necessary and ambulating the patients as directed by the nurse. Performs nursing procedures which do not require the skill/knowledge or judgment of a licensed professional and which may be safely delegated in accordance with nursing policies and procedures. 

  • Implements the steps of the nursing process (i.e., assessment, planning, intervention and evaluation) when providing direct patient care at a level consistent with their level of education and within the Nurse Apprentice duties and responsibilities.  Assists with patient admissions/transfers and discharges. Prepares and chaperones patient during examination, procedure, and treatments; assists with patient procedures/treatments. Gives skin care and timed position changes to increase circulation and prevent pressure sores. Provides foley catheter care, perineal care, and skin care. Prepares and assists patients with meals.  Feeds patients as directed.  Distributes nourishments and drinking water.  Assures patient privacy while providing personal and routine care. Collects, reports and documents data. Assists with unit functions including:

  • Answering call-lights, telephones, running errands, maintaining supplies, accessing computerized patient information, maintaining patient records. Transports patients as needed. Performs the following simple wound care per documented competencies Utilize clean and sterile technique Identify different stages of decubitus Report any noticeable changes in color, odor, or drainage of decubiti’s to nurse Consult with staff nurse to observe site before performing dressing change
