Job Description:

As a Student Intern in the Plan Development Unit (PDU) at the Nebraska Department of Transportation (NDOT), you will have the opportunity to utilize CAD software to produce plan sets for complex highway projects and related civil or transportation engineering projects.

Job Duties:
PDU’s mission is to create, check, and compile plans in a timely manner to meet the project delivery goals of NDOT. PDU works with several divisions within NDOT to create and compile the final plan set. The project can then be let and built to meet the asset management and safety goals of the department.

Responsibilities include:
• Support the Roadway Design Division by creating CAD files for sheet creation, including the title sheet, summary of quantity sheets, typical cross section sheets, plan and profile sheets, etc. These files are used from preliminary thru letting plans for all Roadway Design Projects.
• Create Title Sheet and Summary of Quantities sheets for all other NDOT projects, including Local Projects & Consultant Design Projects.
• Conduct QA/QC check of plan sets from preliminary through Plans, Specifications, and Estimates (PS&E) Turn-in, checking for adherence to NDOT standards and practices.
• Compile the final plan set PDF file for PS&E Turn-in.
• Communicate effectively with people in the department.
• After required skills have been achieved, assist co-workers to create plans following the guidelines set by NDOT.


 

Requirements/ Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications: Must be a three-fourths student in good standing majoring in a discipline or field related to the work to be assigned.   

Preferred Qualifications:  Enrolled in a CAD or engineering program at a recognized two-year technical community college or 4-year university.

Other:  Employment may be possible for up to 4 years with proof of enrollment in an accredited college. Class schedules must be submitted at the beginning of employment to verify enrollment and transcripts of grades. Temporary, full time work may be available during breaks. Permanent employment is possible through the open competitive process. Regular and reliable attendance is required.
