Additional details:    

  • Join Southwest as a Spring 2025 Intern, with a 12-week internship lasting from January 28th through April 17th, 2025. 

  • Work fully remotely, with opportunities to connect with your Team and other workgroups virtually and potential to travel to visit our Corporate Campus in Dallas, Texas. 

  • There is limited group of states or localities ineligible for Employees to regularly perform their work off-site. Those ineligible locations are Alaska, California, Colorado, Delaware, Illinois, Iowa, Maryland, Massachusetts, Montana, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Dakota, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Dakota, Vermont, West Virginia, Washington, and Wyoming. 

  • If you currently reside in an ineligible state, you may relocate to an eligible state and be considered for an internship 

  • Dedicate a minimum of 24 hours each week to your internship responsibilities and tasks, up to 40 hours a week. We recommend checking your spring schedule now to ensure availability.  

  • Receive an hourly pay listed below in “Time Commitment and Pay” and receive a one-time, $1,000 stipend

The Modeling & Visualization Team resides within the Financial Planning & Analysis department and supports a multitude of departments across Southwest Airlines. The mission of this Team is to enable connected models and the infrastructure needed to support high performing plan, budget, forecast, and reporting processes for FP&A. The Financial Planning and Analysis Department empowers Southwest Airlines to make informed decisions that achieve targets, improve performance, and ensures our prosperity. We do this by serving as unbiased partners that create accurate forecasts, imparting global context, and delivering insightful analysis. 

Duties and Responsibilities:  

The duties and responsibilities of the Modeling & Visualization Intern may include but are not limited to: 

  • Developing the Operating Manual for the Anaplan Center of Excellence by collaborating with CoE team members to define and establish best practices and standards.

  • Enhancing and maintaining knowledge management on Confluence by partnering with Anaplan users to ensure accurate and relevant process information and training documentation.

  • Creating process maps and flowcharts to visually represent procedures and workflows.

  • Assisting in the development of thorough user stories with clearly defined acceptance criteria to ensure product features align with customer needs, business objectives, and quality standards.

  • Supporting the CoE with testing, data validation, defect management, enhancement requests, prioritization, and product roadmaps.

  • Recommending solutions for complex projects and assisting peers in development and project management for individual projects.  

  • Creating plans and managing projects while meeting deadlines.  

  • Completing other ad hoc tasks as assigned by Leadership. 

Basic Qualifications :

  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent education required.  

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.  

  • Must have authorization to work in the United States as defined by the Immigration Reform Act of 1986. 

  • You must have a valid U.S. Social Security Number to complete the full hiring process. 

Education:  

  • Progress towards degree, major, or minor in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Analytics, Engineering, Economics, Finance, Math, Information Science, Management Information Systems, Business Administration, Management or a similar degree required.  

  • Progress towards a 4-year undergraduate degree preferred

  • To be eligible, you must be currently enrolled as a full-time student (as defined by your university) at the time of application and during the internship

  • At least one semester remaining at the time the internship ends is preferred  

  • Minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA at the time of application

Experience:  

  • Problem solving ability and strong written/verbal communication skills.  

  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.

  • Strong computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite (PowerPoint, Word, and Excel) preferred.  

  • Experience with Anaplan, Confluence, Jira, Tableau, SQL, and/or Alteryx preferred.  

  • Project management experience preferred. 

  • Quick learner, self-motivated, and team-oriented. 

  • Data analysis experience preferred.  

  • Basic understanding of financial concepts and principles preferred.  

  • Involvement in campus organizations, clubs, or extracurricular activities preferred. 

  • Previous Leadership positions are preferred.  

Knowledge, Skills, Work Style & Abilities: 

  • Ability to work independently and willingness to function as part of a Team. 

  • Ability to coordinate multiple tasks and complete assignments with tight deadlines. 

  • Must be detail oriented and able to work with a sense of urgency.

  • Must maintain a professional appearance and attitude.

Time Commitment and Pay: 

  • Required: Part-Time 24-40hrs a week   

  • Must maintain a consistent weekly schedule during normal business hours at a max of 8 hours per day and no fewer than 24 hours per week.  

  • Program Dates: January 28th to April 17th, 2025 

  • $25 per hour + $1,000 stipend paid in two installments of $500
