Job Description

Are you interested in cutting edge Machine Learning forecasting models?

If you are passionate about data and want to help the LEGO Group unlock deeper insights, this role is for you. We are looking for a Data Science intern with strong analytical skills to join our Demand Forecasting team.

This is your chance to develop a reproducible framework for Sensitivity Analysis in Demand Forecasting models. Better explainability of Machine Learning models such as gradient boosting is key in communication with stakeholders. Join us and work on the design and implementation of such a framework to carry out sensitivity analysis to help improve this explainability.

Important considerations

  • We are looking for someone to ideally start in October 2024.

  • This is a 6-month, full-time (37.5h/week) internship based at our London office. Our flexible working model is 3-day office/ 2-home (full remote is not an option).

  • In order to be considered, you need to have the right to work in the UK.

  • This is a paid internship. Salary will be discussed at the interview stage.

  • Along with your CV, please share a cover letter describing why you are interested in and good fit for this internship.

Core Responsibilities

  • Design, build and/or configure data science solutions through close collaboration with other team members.

  • Perform exploratory data analysis to discover and solve business opportunities, and develop effective solutions.

  • Build efficient and optimal solutions by challenging ideas/opinions.

  • Follow highest coding standards e.g., documentation and efficiency.

  • Communicate verbally and in writing to business and team members with various levels of technical knowledge.

Play your part in our team succeeding

In the Demand Forecasting team we have built complex models where it is not easy to explain what truly drives a change in our forecasts from one delivery to the next. This understanding is a vital component for our stakeholders, and, as such, for the product.

One solution to this is to design and implement a framework to carry out sensitivity analysis. This would tell us what sort of change to expect when, for example, the prices change, a theme changes or a launch date is moved back. Similarly, we could understand how sensitive our model(s) is to any given feature and ensure that we were using the best features. This would be incredibly valuable to the team and to our stakeholders.

Do you have what it takes?

  • Ideally working towards a Master's degree, or PhD in a highly quantitative field such as Computer Science, Mathematics or Statistic related disciplines.

  • Skills in Python for data science, including how to write modular Pythonic code.

  • Theoretical and applied knowledge with time series modelling.

  • Theoretical and applied knowledge with gradient boosting models.

  • Proficiency in English (C1 level).

Other nice to have skills:

  • Skills in SQL for data science.

  • A good working knowledge of the latest time series modelling techniques.
