Job Description
STATUS: Per Diem
LOCATION: Massena Hospital
DEPARTMENT: Emergency Department
SCHEDULE: Variable
-Provides basic age appropriate care to patients under the direct supervision of an RN. Performs various duties necessary to provide complete care, comfort care, and safety for assigned patients.
-Maintains privacy and confidentiality of the patient at all times.
-Demonstrates competence in performing technical skills.
-Organizes and prioritizes workload to maintain patient flow through the Emergency process.
-Performs and records routine tasks, such as:
-Measures vital signs
-Performs EKGs as requested
-Collects specimens for laboratory analysis.
-Takes specimens to the laboratory as needed.
-Transports patients to and from Medical Imaging for testing.
-Transports admitted non-monitored patients to units.
-Keeps all areas clean.
-Sanitizes and makes stretches after patient discharge/transfer or admission.
-Responds to patients call lights promptly and graciously to determine patients' needs and communicates required needs to appropriate personnel.
-Enforces safety measures by protecting patients form injury through:
-Utilization of side rails, by positioning bed at its lowest point and call bell within patient's reach.
-Provides observation, protection of a restless or disturbed patient as directed by nurse;
-Assists with restraining patient under supervision of nurse;
-Reports all accidents or unsafe conditions to registered nurse;
-Reports unusual occurrence regarding patient's condition.
-Uses appropriate interpersonal skills.
-Cooperates with fellow staff to accomplish tasks.
-Demonstrates respectful manner towards patients, visitors and staff.
-Demonstrates a willingness to help when needed.
-Assists or initiates C.P.R.
-Assists with admissions, discharges, or transfer of patient. Provides proper care of patient's clothing and personal possessions.
-Completes various errands as required.
-Keeps rooms stocked and orders supplies as needed.
-Accepts re-assignments to other Nursing Units as needed.
-Assists in orienting new employees to job responsibilities as requested by Supervisor.
-Participates in the performance improvement efforts of the hospital. Produces and monitors related department quality indicators.
-Performs other related duties as required.

PAY RANGE:
$18.55 - $24.83The listed base pay range is a good faith representation of current potential base pay for a successful full time applicant. It may be modified in the future and eligible for additional pay components. Pay is determined by factors including experience, relevant qualifications, specialty, internal equity, location, and contracts.
