Job Summary
The Mental Health Assistant is a nursing caregiver who functions under the direct supervision of the Registered Nurse. This role provides quality, trauma informed care in accordance with patient rights, each patient's individualized plan of care, unit standards and guidelines, and hospital policies and procedures. Responsibilities include the provision of a safe and therapeutic milieu, crisis intervention and assistance with ADL's.Pay Range
Minimum $20.53 Midpoint $27.19 Maximum $33.86Rate of pay is determined by various factors, including but not limited to knowledge, skills, competencies, experience, education, as well as position requirements.
Experience
• Required: Must meet one of the following requirements: 1. Minimum one (1) year of applicable experience; 2. Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Social Work, Special Education or related field; 3. Applied Behavioral Analysis Certification; 4. Students who have completed two (2) years of a four (4) year Bachelor of Science in Nursing program.
*Preferred: Three (3) years of mental health experience.
Education
• Required: High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
Training
• Training Desired Preferred: Two (2) years of experience working in a psych program, schools, resident day treatment centers, etc. Time spent in mental health internships will be considered.
Specialized Skills
• Required: Ability to use computer and software programs necessary to the position, e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint. Ability to relate and communicate positively, effectively and professionally with others. Ability to think critically; work independently; manage multiple assignments; work well under pressure; organize and prioritize workload; recall information with accuracy; pay close attention to detail. Ability to communicate effectively in English in person, writing and on the telephone. Knowledge of Medical Terminology. Ability to consistently function in an environment that includes varying unpredictable or crises situations.
• Preferred: Bilingual.
Licensure
• Required: Basic Life Support (BLS); Comprehensive Crisis Management (CCM).
Work Environments - Functional Demand:
