  • Work closely with External Affairs senior leadership to support federal legislative bill tracking, summarization and analysis, and the development of corporate positioning for policy proposals impacting the company’s Medicaid, Medicare Part D, Medicare Advantage, and ACA Marketplace lines of business as well as cross-cutting health care issue areas spanning topics such as telehealth, mental health, workforce shortages, health care consolidation, prior authorization and artificial intelligence.
  • Attend relevant congressional hearings and provide noteworthy readouts on discussions salient to company priorities.
  • Track health care policy initiatives at the federal level, including proposed rulemaking, and assist with preliminary issue research, analysis and literature review to draft internal and external memos, summaries, power points, one-pagers, and other resources to promote advocacy priorities.
  • Draft biweekly newsletter blurbs capturing potential business impacts reflective of issues impactful to Centene.
  • Work closely with internal business leads and subject matter experts to create comprehensive federal advocacy strategies that advance key strategic policy priorities with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (more specifically the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS)) and Congress.
  • Work with the Federal Government Relations and Policy teams to identify, design and complete a long-term “signature project” that synthesizes a key policy priority for the company and proposes creative approaches and ideas for advancement. This work will be presented to senior executives and business leaders within and outside the External Affairs Department.
  • Gain in-depth exposure to careers in corporate federal government relations and the managed care industry by attending guest speaker presentations and events; internal and external presentations, and having opportunities to collaborate with other interns across Centene’s businesses.
  • Gain insights into Centene’s external partnership operations and the political side of congressional engagement.

Experience/Experience: High school diploma or equivalent. Must be enrolled in an undergraduate program at an accredited university or college, preferably in a field related to the hiring department through the internship period.

The salary range is: $17.00 - $25.00 per hour

This information reflects the anticipated base salary range for this position based on current national data. Minimums and maximums may vary based on location. Actual pay will be adjusted based on an individual's skills, experience, degree program, degree level, number of years of participation in the internship program, and other job-related factors permitted by law.
