POSITION SUMMARY:
The Mother Baby unit is offering experienced nurses an opportunity to be part of a specialty transition program. We are a nationally certified Baby-Friendly hospital with a dynamic, diverse unit that provides comprehensive care to a wide range of patients and their newborns. We are seeking nurses dedicated to serving our unique population and motivated by opportunities for professional growth. We value nurses with experience in quality improvement initiatives or active participation in unit-based or hospital-wide councils. Additionally, we prioritize nurses with multilingual proficiency and those who actively pursue knowledge in maternal-child health through conferences, volunteer work, or other professional development opportunities.
The specialty transition program is designed to provide experienced nurses the opportunity to solidify the knowledge, skills and abilities needed to provide care on the Mother Baby unit. Throughout the specialty transition program, we will emphasize, develop, and expand the application of your nursing knowledge and skills to successfully become a highly skilled Mother Baby nurse. The program offers focused classroom training, as well as a customized precepted clinical experience for 3 months. Both the didactic and clinical components will emphasize the skills and knowledge base you will need to progress through the competency based orientation.
Participants in the transition program will receive their regular hourly pay throughout the training.
DEPARTMENT: Mother Baby
REGULAR SCHEDULE: Nights, 36 hours
ORIENTATION SCHEDULE: 36 Hours, TBD (must be available to work any shift for 12 weeks, including weekends, until the completion of training)
SCHEDULING SUMMARY
This schedule provides maximum exposure to the new clinical environment, colleagues, and patient populations.
Each nurse is responsible in collaboration with their preceptor and clinical nurse educator to devise weekly goals.
Basic computer proficiency is inclusive of the ability to access, enter, and interpret computerized data/information.
Effective interpersonal skills to facilitate communication with various healthcare team members, patients, and families.
Organizational skills to set priorities and efficiently complete assigned work.
Multilingual skills (beyond that of English) in languages appropriate to the patient populations served by the Medical Center preferred.
Relevant clinical experience and/or specialty, certification is preferred for certain practice areas.
Analytical ability to solve clinical nursing issues and conduct quality improvement projects.

12 weeks competency based orientation, specific classes and precepted shifts
BLS required
Nursing degree: Diploma, ASN or BSN (preferred), Ability to obtain BSN within 4 years
2+ years of RN experience required

The application packages will be reviewed and selected candidates will participate in a non-compensated training shadow experience. Such experience shall include shadowing another RN in the Mother Baby Unit for a period of at least 4 hours to gain firsthand insight into the role.
