Job Summary:
The Regional Support Officer—Northern will serve as the focal point for engagement in the Northern region, as well as East Gonja in the Savannah Region, providing support to the districts where ELEVATE Nutrition Ghana is working in those regions. S/he is the primary point of contact for ELEVATE Nutrition within the assigned regions. The Regional Support Officer will provide technical support to the Regional Coordinating Councils (RCCs) and Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs) to promote multisectoral planning and implementation for improving household resilience and food security in the region. Additionally, the Regional Support Officer will provide coordination support for all ELEVATE Nutrition Ghana’s activities within the assigned regions and MMDAs.
The Regional Support Officer will report to the Sub-National Technical Manager. The Regional Support Officer will work collaboratively with staff in the ELEVATE Nutrition Ghana office. The position will be based in Tamale, Ghana with travel expected across the regions.
Essential Job Functions:
Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide technical support to RCCs and MMDAs to plan, budget, implement, and monitor nutrition, food systems, and resilience activities in their Medium-Term Development Plans.
- Develop positive relationships in the regions and MMDAs with government sub-national stakeholders, as well as other relevant project stakeholders through effective, respectful and supportive communication.
- Promote a clear understanding of the ELEVATE Nutrition Ghana project among regional and district level stakeholders.
- Support the organization of regional and district meetings and trainings, as needed, related to project interventions.
- Provide backstopping technical support and quality assurance to activities carried out by the RCC and MMDA staff, or consultants, including promoting the delivery of interventions that are evidence-based.
- Coordinate with the RCC and MMDA technical departments to provide technical assistance and strengthen capacity at both levels, working closely with ELEVATE Nutrition Ghana technical personnel and/or consultants to do so.
- Contribute to annual work plans and quarterly and annual progress reports to USAID.
- Promote gender equality and social inclusion in the design and implementation of activities, guided by the ELEVATE Nutrition Gender Strategy.
- Contribute to efforts to document and disseminate best practices, lessons learned, and success stories related to ELEVATE Ghana’s programming.
- Collaborate with ELEVATE Nutrition technical personnel to ensure high quality program implementation.
- Perform other duties as needed.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or international equivalent in Public Health, Nutrition, Agriculture, Social Sciences, Planning or related field.
- At least 4 years of experience in nutrition, public health or related field for donor-funded projects, preferably within multisectoral and/or nutrition programs.
- Experience working with regions and districts to plan, budget, and/or implement activities.
- Relevant experience in providing technical assistance to government entities
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Keen attention to detail for ensuring data quality and accuracy.
- Ability to work effectively with diverse teams and stakeholders.
- Willingness to travel within Ghana, especially within the Northern and Savannah regions.
