Department Summary
This internship position resides in Global Packaging Development. Our team is part of the global Device and Packaging Development (PTDZ) of Roche Pharmaceutical Technical Development (PTD).
The Global Packaging Development team is responsible for designing and qualifying primary and secondary packaging systems for Roche global pipeline molecules from Phase 1 to Phase 3, including solid dosage forms, injectable and combination products. The team is also responsible for driving global packaging initiatives such as developing platform packaging designs, aligning global packaging network best practices, and identifying new packaging technologies. This position will provide support to developing and qualifying Roche global packaging solutions of assigned projects for clinical and commercial use.
This internship position is located at the US Headquarters of Genentech in South San Francisco, CA, On-site.
The Opportunity
Support the creation and maintenance of packaging component technical drawings, global standards and specifications.
Support the development and qualification of Roche global primary and secondary packaging solutions, incl. authoring/co-authoring qualification documents.
Support the qualification of Roche global packaging solutions in line with the current validation requirements (e.g. development of test protocols and reports, execute IQ, OQ and PQ).
Participate in teams chartered with commercializing new pharmaceutical products incl. non-sterile, sterile and combination products.
Participate in risk analysis as required for all secondary packaging items and shipping qualifications.
Provide technical support concerning new and/or alternate packaging materials, packaging solutions or packaging systems based on product, regulatory, business or technical requirements.
Program Highlights
Intensive 6 months, full time (40 hours per week) paid internship.
Program start dates are in May/June.
A stipend, based on location, will be provided to help alleviate costs associated with the internship.

Who You Are (Required)
Required Education: You meet one of the following criteria:
Must be pursuing a Bachelor's Degree (enrolled student).
Must be pursuing a Master's Degree (enrolled student).
Must be pursuing a PhD (enrolled student).
Required majors: Materials Science, Mechanical, Chemical, Packaging Engineering or related field.
Required skills:
Knowledge of primary and secondary packaging and related equipment and processes is preferred.
Knowledge of pharmaceutical equipment validation/qualification processes is preferred.
Knowledge of testing methodologies and industry standards for packaging (e.g. ASTM D4169, D7386, ISO-11607) is a plus.
Knowledge of design of experiments, Lean Manufacturing, or 6-Sigma is a plus.
Knowledge of computer systems including TOPS, CAD or Solidworks, Microsoft tools including MS project and Adobe.
Preferred Qualifications

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of California is $23-$41 hour. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. This position also qualifies for paid holiday time off benefits.
