DEPARTMENT SUMMARY: The Security Department at St. Charles Health System provides services which promote the physical and psychological safety of patients, visitors, and caregivers.

POSITION OVERVIEW: The Supervisor Public Safety is responsible for the ongoing safety of the hospital. The supervisor will be responsible for training competencies and supervision of all officers that report to them. The supervisor will be responsible for implementing best practice for safe access into the hospitals. This position directly manages caregivers in security.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES:

Implements and supervises all organizational security directives and goals.

Manages public safety officers.

Ability to operate and teach caregivers on metal detector usage (stationary and hand-held) and maintain its use within policy.
 

Manages data collection, analysis and reporting of all security related functions. Presents data to caregivers, leaders and managers to inform teams of security hazards and progress towards mitigation of hazards.

Frequently inspects the buildings to ensure security of entrances, departments and general public areas.

Instructs direct reports oneffective communication and de-escalation while maintaining professional relationships with caregivers, medical staff, patients, and guests.

Provides de-escalation support as situations require.

Monitors cameras and manages staff security accounts. Troubleshoots security system issues as trained.

Responsible for budget development, regular monitoring, accountability and meeting all operational targets for all areas within span of control.

Hires, directs, coaches and monitors the performance of all direct reports, to develop and maintain a high-performance team that meets organizational and department goals.

Monitors and ensures all direct reports are current with compliance and safety requirements. Implements and manages all organizational safety directives and goals.

Provides and oversees team’s delivery of customer service in a manner that promotes goodwill, is timely, efficient, and accurate.

Collaborates with teams to review processes and identify/implement opportunities for improvements, applying Lean principles, concepts and tools.

Supports the vision, mission, and values of the organization in all respects.

EDUCATION:           

Required:  High school graduate or GED equivalent. Must be willing to take additional courses as requested.           

Preferred: Bachelor’s degree.  

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRATION:

Required:

AHA Basic Life Support for Healthcare Provider certification.

Code Grey Training upon hire.

Code Grey Instructor training within 1 year of hire.

DPSST Supervisor/Manager license on hire or within 6 months of hire.

Preferred: N/A

EXPERIENCE:

Required: 5 years experience in hospital security.         

Preferred: 2 years experience supervising employees.  

PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT:

Must be able to wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) required to perform the job safely.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Continually (75% or more): Standing and walking, keyboard operation, use of clear and audible speaking voice and the ability to hear normal speech level.

Frequently (50%): Sitting, lifting/carrying/pushing or pulling 1-25 pounds. The use and operation of a motor vehicle for Home Health and Wound Caregivers.

Occasionally (25%): Bending, stooping/kneeling/crouching, climbing ladder/step-stool (varies by area), reaching overhead, lifting/carrying/pushing or pulling 25-50 pounds, grasping/squeezing, ability to hear whispered speech level.

Rarely (10%): Climbing stairs.

Never (0%): Climbing ladder/step-stool (varies by area), operation of a motor vehicle.

Exposure to Elemental Factors
