Department Summary
The Department of Research Oncology is seeking a creative, independent, and motivated scientist for the 2025 Summer Internship program. The candidate will join our team and support ongoing discovery research aiming to identify and characterize mechanisms of tumor suppression. This role is an exceptional opportunity to perform basic discovery research alongside drug discovery efforts.
This internship position is located in South San Francisco, onsite.
The Opportunity
Work to validate and characterize mechanisms of tumor suppression in 3D organoid models of cancer
Analyze existing screen and ‘omics data to provide insights into mechanisms of tumor suppression
Work together with other scientists in the group to design/execute experiments using cell culture and biochemical techniques
Keep detailed records of the research findings using an electronic notebook
Communicate and present results to a diverse group of scientists during internal meetings
Program Highlights
Intensive 12-weeks, full time (40 hours per week) paid internship.
Program start dates are in May/June (Summer)
A stipend, based on location, will be provided to help alleviate costs associated with the internship.
Ownership of challenging and impactful business-critical projects.

Who You Are (Required)
Required Education:
You meet one of the following criteria:
Must be pursuing a Bachelor's Degree (enrolled student)
Must have attained a Bachelor's Degree
Must be pursuing a Master's Degree (enrolled student)
Must have attained a Master's Degree
Must be pursuing a PhD (enrolled student)
Required majors: Biochemistry, Cell Biology, Molecular Cell Biology, Biotechnology or related fields
Required Skills:
Expertise in general biochemistry techniques, cell culture, and cell line engineering using CRISPR/Cas9 or PiggyBac transposon systems
Expertise in analysis of NGS data analysis
Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.

Relocation benefits are not available for this job posting.
The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of California is $45-$50 hourly. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. This position also qualifies for paid holiday time off benefits.
