About the Unit

Our Team provides bedside care for high risk postpartum or post-delivery patients. Complications can be high blood, diabetes management, complicated medical history, Covid-19 and more.  Care for newborns that have issues with feeding, blood sugar management, high bilirubin levels, infant antibiotics if needed.  Couplet care, where we care for mom and baby together. We have the ability to really connect with women during this difficult time in their lives and make an impact on their stay especially if they are here long-term

Scope of work

The Nurse Tech acts as a team member in the delivery of quality patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) or Provider. Performs basic skills per department guidelines and communicates observations to members of the health care team.

As a nurse tech on the unit, you will provide patient care which can include taking vital signs, transportation, collaborating with the RN, blood sugar checks, ADLs and more.

Nurse techs also get the unique experience of working in the nursery where they care for newborns. Nurse techs will learn to take baby vitals, assist with circumcisions, do different required testing for newborns which includes hearing screen and car seat testing, performing blood sugars and some lab collections.

Qualifications

  • Required High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through AHA American Heart Association or American Red Cross is required 90 Day
  • 1 year of prior Nurse Tech experience is preferred
