JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Shift Time: 7:00pm-7:00am

 

Summary of the Job:


LPN: The LPN position is responsible for the coordination of clinical activities of a group of assigned patients.  Activities include, but are not limited to, use of the nursing process in the utilization of skills in organization, planning, implementing, evaluating, and providing care as it relates to the specific needs of the patient.   The LPN works within the framework of the State LPN Practice Act and complies with hospital and nursing standards in the performance of job duties and responsibilities.  The LPN will support the goals and objectives of the department and of the hospital. The nursing staff within Children’s Services areas are required to float among units in the hospital.
 

Paramedic: The Paramedic is a specially trained bedside caregiver who assists the professional nursing staff in performing routine care, performs specialized technical skills, reports any unusual incidents or findings, and maintains patient safety at all times to a group of patients for a designated time period.  Care given by a Paramedic is in accordance with standards and procedures of the hospital.


Minimum Qualifications:

 

LPN: Demonstrated communication, time management and organizational skills required.  Must have typing and computer skills, knowledge of medical terminology, and be able to perform detail oriented tasks. Successfully completed Board Certified Nursing Program and IV Therapy. Recent ED, Pediatric ED, or Urgent Care experience preferred. Current Louisiana LPN Licensure and current BLS certification required upon hire. ALS, PALS, and NRP required within 90 days of hire.  CPI certification required within 6 months of hire. Resuscitation certifications may be through any International Liaison Committee on resuscitation (ILCOR) provided courses such as but not limited to:  Ochsner Health System, American Heart Association and American Red Cross.  The ILCOR course must include a manikin check-off. 

 

Paramedic: High School graduate or equivalent required.  National Registry required. BLS through the American Heart Association and current ACLS required.  Current Paramedic credentials. Professional appearance required. Excellent interpersonal skills and verbal and written communication required, as this position interacts with patients, families, nurses, physicians, and other hospital personnel frequently. Must be able to meet weekend and holiday requirements.           


Physical Demands (all titles):
Must possess good physical health.  Some requirements include but are not limited to standing, sitting or walking for long periods of time.  Lifting at least 50 pounds is required.  Must be able to work with a moderate level of noise.
Physical Effort required:        
Constant (67%-100%) – hearing, seeing
Frequently (34%-66%)- reaching, handling/feeling, talking
Occasionally (1%-33%)- lifting, carrying, pushing/pulling, climbing (stairs, ladders, etc.), stooping, crouching
