The Opportunity

We currently have an opportunity for a Technical Consultant within our Rapid Diagnostics, Infectious Disease division. This is a remote, field-based position located in Knoxville, TN.

Abbott Rapid Diagnostics is part of Abbott’s Diagnostics family of businesses, bringing together exceptional teams of experts and industry-leading technologies to support diagnostic testing which provides important information for treatment and management of diseases and other conditions. 

This position will assist Account Managers with evaluations, demonstrations and the activation of new accounts, retaining at-risk and VIP customers, providing maintenance of established accounts, and contributing to the growth of existing accounts. This position will also provide education of the clinical utility of our products in the laboratory and/or Point-of-Care setting as needed.  

What you'll work on

  • Provide on-site technical and clinical training on all Abbott Infectious Disease products, including instruments and visual read tests.
  • Provide on-site customer assistance in the performance of verification studies in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, including CLIA, CAP, COLA, and TJC, on all ARDx-IDDM products as applicable.
  • Create consultative, advising relationships with customers regarding technically relevant issues, product utilization, and optimizing technical processes.
  • Eloquently communicates Abbott’s message at the highest-level customer meetings.
  • Anticipate customers' needs and provide solutions for seamless integration of products and best lab practices.
  • Present professional educational programs to medical and laboratory staff as needed.
  • Communicate and collaborate with team members in discovering and managing troubleshooting events.
  • Communicate to peers new advances or changing trends identified in the healthcare marketplace.
  • Assist sales with in-servicing and continuing education in key accounts to ensure correct technique is maintained and that the medical/lab staff understands the clinical utility and benefit of rapid turnaround time of the product(s).  
  • Proactively follow up and identify at-risk accounts to Technical Services and to the appropriate sales account owner and recommend strategies and suggestions to retain such accounts. Responsible for identifying sales opportunities within accounts, both for new products and expansion of current products.
  • Assist with product training of sales, marketing, and Technical Service staff.
  • Conduct workflow analysis for large clinics and hospitals to guide decision making and to create efficient workflows to improve turnaround times and customer satisfaction.
  • Proactively participates and attends monthly Technical Consultant calls, company and professional meetings, and educational webinar calls.
  • Performance may be assessed using a combination of annual and quarterly assessments as well as frequent one-on-one discussions. This may include open communication with management, customer satisfaction, account retention, account growth, Account Manager satisfaction and other relevant criteria. 
  • Requires at least 50% travel, and may average as much as 75% travel, occasionally with less than a week’s notice. Occasional weekend travel may be required.
  • Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE YOU’LL BRING

Required

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Technology or Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing from an accredited college or university or directly equivalent degree.
  • Registered Medical Technologist or Registered Nurse in state of residence.
  • Minimum of 3 years continuous experience as a Medical Technologist in a clinical lab environment or as a Registered Nurse in a critical-care or infectious disease environment.
  • At least one year of related implementation or Point-of-Care Testing experience.
  • Competent in computer operation including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook in addition to PDF files.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, including a demonstrated ability to clearly and effectively teach complex subjects to a diverse audience.
  • Ability to work with a diverse team on multiple tasks is critical.

Preferred

  • Management, supervisory, or POCC experience preferred.
  • Advanced degrees and/or Sales experience preferred.
  • 5 years of Medical Technologist or Registered Nurse experience.
  • Extensive Point-of-Care Testing or infectious disease knowledge. 
  • Proven excellence in customer service, training, and troubleshooting skills. Familiarity with infectious disease, point-of-care testing, and an understanding of sales is highly desirable. 
  • Demonstrated ability to carry out assignments with minimal guidance in an accurate, dependable manner.

The base pay for this position is

$57,300.00 – $114,700.00

In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
