About this role:

As a Pediatric Advanced Practice Provider in Cardiothoracic Surgery, you will work with a team of healthcare professionals committed to providing quality care and excellent patient experience.  In this role you will provide care to patients with congenital heart disease. This role is mostly comprised of first or second assisting in the operating room.

Primary Children’s Hospital’s Heart Center is a collaboration of providers from Intermountain Health and the University of Utah.  It is highly respected and nationally ranked for delivering outstanding care to patients with congenital heart disease.

  • Full time, typical weekly schedule of 4 weekday 10-hour shifts
  • Will participate in & be compensated for evening, weekend, and holiday OR call, shared equally between three APPs.
     

This APP will perform such duties as:

  • 1st and 2nd assist on pediatric congenital cardiothoracic surgeries.
  • Participate in wound closures and post-op care (ie suture, wound vac placement).
  • Place arterial lines and IVs perioperatively.
  • Perform patient assessments, order tests, write progress notes as necessary on inpatients.
  • Interpret patient care tests and exams to guide care. Follow up on labs/tests ordered.
  • Utilize advanced specialty knowledge to ensure appropriate, effective, and timely care is provided.
  • Perform diagnostic and/or therapeutic procedures as defined by Scope of Practice.
  • May participate in rounds, clinic or other patient care settings.
  • Document patient care and findings in an electronic medical record with proficiency, and input data into national data registries as needed.
  • Timely respond to acute patient changes, support staff needs, and exam results.
  • Educate patient, patient's family, clinical staff, and others.
  • Consult and coordinate with other healthcare providers.
  • Participate in weekly/monthly learning opportunities and committees to gain optimal career development and achieve best patient care and outcomes.
  • May also participate in research, utilize evidence-based practice to improve quality patient care, protocol development, care process model development, and best practice standards for assigned patient population throughout our organization.

What you’ll bring:

  • Utah license as a Physician Assistant (PA) or an Advance Practice Registered Nurse (APRN).
  • Board Certification as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant
  • Utah State Controlled Substance License
  • Federal DEA Certificate II through V
  • PALS and BLS Certification for Healthcare Providers
  • Preferred: 2+ years of pediatric cardiothoracic surgery, adult cardiothoracic surgery, or other surgical specialty experience.

The hourly range for this position is listed below. Actual hourly rate dependent upon experience. 

$60.33 - $93.08
