The Salvation Army (Salvos) is one of Australia’s largest providers of alcohol and other drug (AOD) programs including withdrawal management, residential and non-residential rehabilitation, and harm reduction programs. Salvos services go beyond addressing the core issues and challenges associated with problematic substance abuse and provide participants a place of hope, compassion, and dignity to recover safely.


About the role
We are seeking a values-driven and proactive Registered Nurses for our Townsville Recovery Services Centre! You will provide specialised withdrawal management (detox) nursing services to vulnerable clients undergoing detox.

Reporting to the Team Leader, this is a Casual position, based in Townsville, QLD. Salary is in accordance with QLD Nurses EA Registered Nurse Level 2.


You will successfully

  • Support and liaise with visiting medical officers and other medical officers as needed
  • Dispense and administer medication to manage withdrawal symptoms as per Guidelines
  • Activities include admission and discharge, maintaining case notes and other required documentation and handover at change of shifts
  • Demonstrate commitment to an environment that values continuous improvement and innovation in delivery of high quality services


You will have

  • Relevant qualifications in Nursing and current registration with Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)
  • Minimum 2 year's experience and demonstrated competence in nursing in the Alcohol and Other Drugs nursing environment, including working with people with mental health conditions
  • Demonstrated current knowledge of the Guidelines and issues relating to withdrawal management
  • Demonstrated skills in triage, medical assessment, decision making and providing appropriate nursing interventions and provide crisis support
  • Demonstrated competence in infection control procedures
  • Demonstrated ability to work with people from different cultures and religious backgrounds
  • Demonstrated effective communication skills with people displaying challenging behaviours
  • Knowledge of Workplace Health and Safety obligations and practice these in the workplace in line with TSA policy, procedures and legislation
  • Willingness and ability to work overnight shifts
  • Current Driver's Licence
  • A current and valid Working with Children's Check (QLD Blue Card)
