Job Summary :
Serves the needs of and protects the Hendricks Regional health facilities, the administration, associates, visitors, patients, and public through the efficient and effective completion of Police and Security functions, the interpretation and application of Indiana criminal and traffic statutes and enforcing hospital policies and procedures.Job Description
Essential Responsibilities:
1. Respond to and take charge of all matters and incidents requiring police intervention on HRH property during the Officers shift.
2. Adhere to and enforce and/or report violations of Indiana Law or hospital policies and procedures through chain of command.
3. Enforce applicable Indiana State Law pertaining to criminal and traffic statutes, to include 24-hour Immediate Detentions.
4. Conduct tours and make regular foot and/or vehicle patrols in HRH hospital buildings and around the hospital grounds, including all offsites and parking lots.
5. Monitor and protect all HRH buildings, the staff, patients and guests and their property from theft, vandalism, or other wrongful acts; investigating situations and taking enforcement action as necessary.
6. Be familiar with the physical layout off all hospital campuses and be able to conduct security checks or respond to calls for service from those facilities.
7. Respond to all alarms, including HUGS, fire, intrusion, or panic.
8. Submit items to lost and found as necessary, completing all entries as soon as practicable.
9. Complete thorough reports on TrackTik which accurately document activities during their shift, including the use of pictures where possible.JOB IS FROM: nursingjobs.siteVIEW
10. Report any emergency facility problems and follow-up on matters where warranted to be sure assistance on way or at scene.
11. Report law enforcement or security emergencies as soon as practicable to the Police Chief and House Supervisor.
12. Contact the Hendricks County Communications Center (HCCC) to summon back up for any matter requiring it from the appropriate police jurisdiction.
13. Enforce hospital parking policies as described in departmental procedures, issuing parking violations and towing when necessary.
14. Look for unsafe conditions and report findings as necessary to appropriate persons.
15. Assist in enforcing hospital key control.
16. Escort visitors and associates to and from parking areas as requested.
17. Review and stay current on all applicable departmental procedures.
18. Escort patients as requested by the medical staff and assist law enforcement officers in accordance with hospital policies.
19. Maintain communication with the Prosecutors Office on arrestees and charges.
20. Process crime scenes for evidence.
21. Conduct searches of persons and vehicles with probable cause and as necessary or according to HRH policy.
22. Make arrests as necessary.
23. Receive and document all evidence according to policy and maintain chain of custody of all evidence during its storage.
24. Draft thorough and complete probable cause affidavits on all arrests, including all supporting documentation.
25. Conduct thorough investigations on all matters whether in person, via phone or on video in the performance of duty.
26. Required to communicate with and testify in Court whenever summoned and dress in his distinctive uniform or business attire while testifying.
27. Investigate all vehicle crashes that occur on HRH property.
28. While investigating crashes, shall process crash scenes for evidence and document his findings on the state crash reporting forms and on TrackTik, including photographing crash scenes.
29. Interview witnesses as necessary.
30. Interrogate suspects as necessary, recording the interrogation and documenting findings on the Police Officers TrackTik report.
31. Required to draft and submit for subpoenas as required by duty and deliver subpoenas as necessary.
32. Attend regular and state mandated training as requested.
33. Cooperate with other Law Enforcement agencies through criminal or safety information sharing.
34. Manage the release of information to staff and media through the HRH Marketing Department and will not speak with the media directly, unless directed to do so.
35. Recognize, respond to and document all breeches of the law that occur in his presence.
36. Conduct traffic stops for traffic statute violations or HRH policy violations occurring in his presence on HRH property.
37. Maintain peace and order on HRH grounds and de-escalate violent and aggressive behavior when encountered and possible.
38. Assist and control VIP/Crowd incidents as needed.
39. Properly use and communicate via police radio.
40. Obey the laws of the State of Indiana and HRH policy in the application of force used to make an arrest or for medical situations the Officer is involved in.
41. Prepared to use force to effect an arrest or terminate aggressive or life-threatening actions, up to and including the use of deadly force.
42. Document all uses of force during the Officers patrol shift on TrackTik and notify the Chief of Police and house Supervisor of all uses of force as soon as practicable.
43. Maintain firearms proficiency and meet HRH firearms qualifications standards during all firearms certifications.
44. Qualify on Taser when required and maintain Taser certification.
45. Maintain his uniform appearance throughout the patrol shift and wear all assigned gear, including but not limited to ballistic vest, flashlight, glove pouch, firearm, hospital keys, and radio, maintaining its care and readiness.
46. May be called and required to report to duty for emergencies or for mandatory call out for the covering of shift vacancies.
47. Must maintain confidentiality on all security and police matters.
48. Maintain a high level of customer service awareness on all interactions and exchanges and act in an assistive manner at all times.
Supplemental responsibilities:
The functions of this position are not limited to those items listed above. Other tasks may be assigned as needed.
1. Act as hospital liaison with city, county, and State Police, and the Danville Police and Fire Departments.
2. Participate in quality improvement process.
3. Police Officer shall perform specified tasks, including but not limited to, the following items.
- a. Submitting work orders to engineering for matters requiring it as needed.
- b. Conduct Fire Drills;
- c. Conduct Fire Extinguisher checks;
- d. Activate and De-activate fire points for burn permits;
- e. Carry our special instructions as assigned by the Chief of Police or through a designee of the Chief of Police.
4. Assign prox cards and access as needed.
5. Make and assign ID cards as needed.
6. Regulate and direct traffic flow for special events, weather issues, crowd control and other situations as needed.
7. Assist in the transportation, placement and release of cadavers and assist with other morgue duty.
8. Assist with transportation details as needed, or to deliver arrestees to Jail.
9. Perform other duties as assigned by the Chief of Police.
Education/Experience:
1. High school diploma or equivalent.
2. Attend ILEA Tier II and pass all requirements as stated in description.
3. Ability to speak clearly, write legibly, read, and follow oral or written instructions.
4. Working knowledge of general requirements of a security officer; minimum 5 years applicable experience with law enforcement organization such as Sheriff’s Department, State Police, local law enforcement agency, Indiana Department of Corrections, Hospital Security, or a combination thereof is required.
