The unit, named a “high performing hospital” by US News and World Report 2021-2022, has 27 postpartum beds, 13 labor beds, 5 triage rooms, 2 operating rooms, 1 resuscitation room, and a newborn nursery. The unit staffs to AWHONN guidelines. Labor is typically 1 patient to 1 nurse and postpartum is 3 couplets to 1 nurse. Neonatal ICU services are provided by Children’s Hospital, which is attached to the unit. The unit is staffed 24-7 with an in-house OB/GYN and a neonatal nurse practitioner. Mother Baby Center nurses are passionate about birth and newborn care. The unit boasts continued RN longevity in the role. Unlike other facilities, RNs hired to the Mother Baby Center will split their time between labor and postpartum care, allowing for increased opportunities to connect with patients and grow their RN skill set.
Tier 1: One or more years RN Labor & Delivery experience within the last 3 years or recent completion of Labor & Delivery orientation required
Tier 2: One or more years RN postpartum experience or recent completion of post-partum orientation required
- 0.9 FTE (72 hours per two-week period)
- Day/Night 12-hour shifts
- Every third weekend rotation (Fri, Sat, Sun)
- MNA-represented, benefit-eligible position
Job Description:
Nursing is the diagnosis and treatment of human response to actual or potential health problems. This includes establishing an intentional therapeutic relationship between a registered nurse and a patient and family. As a leader and the integrator of care, the professional nurse has the responsibility, authority, and accountability for planning, coordinating and evaluating the patient’s care needs.
Provides care to the obstetrics patients and their families during the antepartum, intrapartum and postpartum period.
Principle Responsibilities
- Comprehensive assessment of patient and family needs; identification of outcomes based on needs assessment; establishing the plan of care; supervising the progress; and modification of the plan of care as needed.
- Maintains education and competencies to remain proficient to provide high quality patient care practice and skills.
- Incorporates evidence-based nursing practice taking into consideration current statutes, rules and regulations when developing the plan of care.
- Establishes, in the collaboration with the family and patient, realistic and measurable patient expected outcomes based on nursing diagnoses, patients present and potential capabilities, goals, available resources and plan for continuity of care.
- Identifies outcomes that are age appropriate, culturally appropriate, realistic and attainable.
- Coordinates, collaborates, and delegates appropriately to ensure care is provided in a safe, effective fashion.
- Fulfills all organizational requirements.

Required Qualifications
- Associate's or Vocational degree
- 0 to 2 years RN experience, May consider new graduate RN
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree
- 0 to 2 years labor and delivery experience
Licenses/Certifications
- Licensed Registered Nurse – MN Board of Nursing required if working in state of MN upon hire / WI Department of Safety & Professional Services required if working in the state of WI upon hire
- Must meet at least ONE of the requirements below:
◦ Current BLS certification from the American Heart Association
◦ Current BLS certification from the American Red Cross
◦ Allina in-house BLS training (within 30 days of hire) - NRP - Neonatal Resuscitation - Multisource required for identified units per hiring manager
- ACLS required for identified units per hiring manager
- RN-C in related specialty preferred
