Overview
The System Director of Nursing Excellence and Professional Development oversees the Magnet Program for the organization to include coordination of efforts to attain Magnet status for all eligible facilities and ongoing management to maintain American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) Magnet recognition. Leads the development and system-wide implementation for a comprehensive Magnet program, formulates and executes a visionary strategic plan for nursing practice, and fosters perfect alignment with the organization's overall mission and long-term goals. Champions initiatives to elevate clinical excellence, achieve efficiency in system wide processes, including the implementation of evidence-based practices, continuous improvement of quality metrics, and cultivation of robust staff development to achieve "top of license" professional practice. Develops and utilizes research partnerships to elevate and standardize the quality of patient care across the organization and advances the science of nursing practice.
Maintains expert knowledge of current Magnet requirements and ensures organizational awareness and success. Functions as the primary liaison for the organization with the Magnet Program Office. Facilitates and engages administration, physicians, nurse leaders, staff, and all interprofessional staff for the Magnet site visit.

What you will do
- Develops and implements a comprehensive Magnet program for all eligible facilities across the organization. Ensures the ANCC Magnet tenants are maintained throughout the nursing division through education, newsletters, meetings, etc. This includes but is not limited to the challenges and opportunities for improvement and gap analysis, as well as how Magnet affects all aspects of care delivery. Fosters a collaborative and high-performing environment by building strong and enduring relationships with nursing leadership teams across all facilities.
- Develops and maintains a nursing dashboard composed of nursing sensitive outcomes to be routinely shared with nurse leaders and staff nurses. Assures completion and submission of all required Magnet organizational demographics.
- Spearheads the development of a dynamic research partnership with UVA. Through collaborative efforts, identifies key research areas that strategically align with the priorities of both institutions. Assists the system-level director of research and the RRMC Research Council in developing and facilitating staff involvement in nurse driven research and evidence based practice following the Magnet tenants for advancing nursing practice and research.
- Develops and supports a structured nursing shared governance model across the organization at the facility and unit levels to support staff nurse involvement in committees and task forces to improve patient care and operations.
- Assists in the annual goals and strategic plans to include ongoing processes for nursing participation in advancing degrees, certifications, and attendance at regional and national meetings/conferences. Advocates for the nursing profession at the system level, to include nursing leadership development. Represents the organization with external stakeholders, fostering positive and productive relationships.
- Assists in facilitating and/or coordinating ongoing formal education, mentoring, and succession planning for nurse leaders in alignment with Magnet principles.
- Oversees the development and implementation of comprehensive policies and procedures that promote optimal safety, exceptional quality care, and a consistently positive work environment for all nursing staff.
- Oversees the development and standardization of system wide education that is best practice and supports growth in professional practice. Supports facility/division leadership to implement and monitor ongoing compliance with required education.
- Remains at the forefront of the nursing leadership landscape by continuously staying abreast of current trends and best practices in Magnet designation, nursing leadership, and the healthcare delivery landscape.
Qualifications
Education
- Masters Degree, Nursing (Required)
- Doctoral Degree, DHP (Preferred)
Experience
- 5-6 years Advanced Nursing leadership (Required)
- 3-4 years Program Management experience (Required)
- 2 years Nursing Educator experience (Preferred)
Skills and Abilities
