DEPARTMENT SUMMARY: The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit & Pediatrics departments provide 24/7 specialized care to patients and their families throughout their hospitalization and discharge.
POSITION OVERVIEW: The Nurse Manager –Neonatal Intensive Care Unit & Pediatrics directs the delivery of professional nursing services for assigned unit(s). This position is responsible for the overall planning, budgeting, staffing, performance, and operation of the department(s) in conjunction with the director as well as performance and annual review of direct reports. This position serves as a resource and provides clinical support to health care professionals throughout the health system to improve patient care and patient outcomes in the Pediatric population. This position directly manages caregivers in the Pediatrics and the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES:
Oversee the operations of assigned department to ensure smooth and efficient department operations and that resources are available in the assigned units 24/7. Collaborates with other staff members to facilitate provision of patient care.
Ensures adequate departmental staffing to provide safe patient care through review of appropriate data, development and maintenance of master schedules.
Acts as the department liaison to other hospital departments and outside entities.
Responsible for resource management ensuring appropriate and sufficient equipment and supplies are available. Manages staffing and scheduling (control of master schedule; ETO & LOA approval; light duty scheduling) - delegates related clerical functions to admin assistant and/or other applicable staff.
Serves as a real-time resource and assists with clinical expertise for staff with problem-solving on patient care, processes, and family issues. Serves as representative for all customers.
Maintains ongoing communication with staff, department leadership, and others to ensure needs are being met for staff and patients.
Engages medical staff to obtain input on the operation of the department and key decisions, including coordination of care and development of new programs. Working knowledge of Physician contracts and able to provide oversight and follow up as appropriate.
Communicates (both written and orally) effectively and maintains professional relationships with caregivers, medical staff, patients, guests and other hospital departments.
Coordinates quality initiatives and process improvements within department and system wide as appropriate. Aligns and manages to St. Charles Health System metrics and quality initiatives. Oversees trending of quality and financial indicators including LOS with case manager support.
Facilitates department meetings and shared governance/leadership efforts.
Assists with quality, safety, customer service and regulatory (Joint Commission/etc.) compliance oversight: EMS – Receipt, assignment, tracking and trending, delegation.
Role models two-way communication of the St. Charles Health System mission, vision, values, and strategic plan for the department (staff meetings, rounds, etc.)
Responsible for budget development, regular monitoring, accountability and meeting all operational targets for all areas within span of control. Provides productivity oversight and review. Works with leadership to achieve productivity standards. Develops and implements annual plan including goals for unit with director and supervisor(s). Controls and maintains position control including the addition and deletion of positions related to budget and human resource needs.
Hires, directs, coaches and monitors the performance of all direct reports, to develop and maintain a high performance team that meets organizational and department goals. Responsible for performance and annual review of direct reports. Complies with Human Resource processes and controls.
Directs, oversees and provides for leadership development of staff.
Monitors and ensure all direct reports are current with compliance and safety requirements. Implements and manages all organizational safety directives and goals
Provides and oversees team’s delivery of customer service in a manner that promotes goodwill, is timely, efficient and accurate.
Oversees and incorporates the continuum of care for Pediatrics and Neonatal Intensive Care Unit patients and family from the acute care setting transitioning to home and the community.
Collaborates with teams to review processes and identify/implement opportunities for improvements, applying Value Improvement Practice concepts and tools.

EDUCATION
Required: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. BSN or Bachelor’s degree in related field
Preferred: MSN or Master’s degree in related field
LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRATION
Required: Current licensure with the Oregon State Board of Nursing.
Ability to travel to business functions/trainings/meetings and all St. Charles Health System worksites
AHA Basic Life Support for Healthcare Provider certification.
Preferred: N/A
EXPERIENCE
Required: 5 years nursing experience.1 year leadership experience.
Preferred: Leadership experience in a Level 3 NICU or Pediatric unit.
PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT
Must be able to wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) required to perform the job safely.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Continually (75% or more): Use of clear and audible speaking voice and the ability to hear normal speech level.
