Job Summary:
The practice of nursing by a registered nurse shall mean the assumption of responsibility and accountability for those nursing actions which include, but are not limited to: assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of a nursing diagnosis. Execution of the prescribed diagnostic and therapeutic treatment regiments, administering, delegating, and evaluating nursing activities.Location: Methodist Fremont Health Hospital

Work Schedule: 7p.m. to 7a.m., every 3rd weekend, rotating holidays
Responsibilities:
Essential Functions
1. Provides an accurate and thorough assessment of the patient/family to identify human responses to actual or potential health conditions.
- Performs patient care assessments and reassessments based on patient condition and established policy/procedure.
- Demonstrates the ability to effectively utilize the nursing process when providing assessment for all individuals.
- Demonstrates the ability to assess and reassess pain and pain management techniques utilized.
- Documents all assessment and reassessments in an accurate, legible, and timely manner.
2. Formulation of a nursing diagnosis to identify and plan for the needs of an individual, family, or group.
- Utilizes history and assessment information to identify patient problems and set goals.
- Formulates a teaching plan based upon identified learning needs.
- Demonstrates the ability to revise a plan of care as indicated by patient's response to treatment.
- Utilizes assessment data and formulates a plan for discharge needs.
3. Implementation of a nursing treatment regimen to provide for the selection, performance and management of proper nursing practices.
- Performs patient care responsibilities considering needs specific to the standards of care and patient's age.
- Performs direct patient care utilizing professional nursing skills and judgment according to physicians and other licensed practitioner's orders.
- Teaches health care practices, initiates and participates in patient and family education programs.
- Demonstrates knowledge of medications and their correct administration based on age of the patient and their condition.
- Documentation of nursing care meets current standards and policies.
4. Evaluation of the plan of care an treatment for all patients under his/her care to promote resolution of patient problems and positive patient outcomes.
- Evaluates overall plan daily for effectiveness and makes adjustments as needed to meet patient goals.
- Evaluates effectiveness of learning and discharge teaching needs.
5. Coordinates and supervises patient care to provide for the management of a multidisciplinary approach to patient care.
- Communicates pertinent information regarding patient care appropriately and clearly.
- Demonstrates the ability to assist physicians with procedures and patient rounds.
- Utilizes effective clinical delegation skills, demonstrating accountability for the scope of practice of the individual being delegated to and evaluation of the outcome of delegation.
- Consults with co-workers and other departments as appropriate to provide for an interdisciplinary approach to the patient's needs and discharge plan.
6. Safety initiative - Complies with Methodist Fremont Health safety policies and procedures and regulatory requirements e.g., Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Joint Commission (JCAHO), Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA).

- Completes departmental safety requirements, I.e., blitz, departmental in-services, etc., on an annual basis.
7. For Home Health: Understand and implement Medicare requirements in care of the home care patients to meet eligibility, documentation and compliance.
- Patient care is planned and provided based on a comprehensive assessment of patient needs.
- Utilizes the role of primary nurse to effectively manage patient care from admission to discharge in an appropriate and cost effective manner.
- Documentation is completed in a timely manner and supports the care provided to meet regulatory requirements.
- Utilizes data from the Oasis comprehensive assessment to plan patient cares and monitors outcomes of the care.
8. For Home Health: Coordinates care of home care patients to provide for Continuity of Cares.
- Coordinates care of home care patients to provide for Continuity of Cares.
- Works as an integral part of the Hospice Interdisciplinary team to meet the ongoing needs of hospice patients.

Job Requirements
Education
- Graduate from an accredited Diploma School of Nursing/College of Nursing with an Associate of Science Degree in Nursing (ASN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
License/Certifications
- Required:
- Current valid Nebraska Registered Nurse (RN) License, valid compact multistate license, or a temporary permit while awaiting licensure required.
- Current American Heart Association or American Red Cross Basic Life Support (BLS) strongly preferred at time of hire, required within 3 months of hire.
- Preferred:
- 4th LDRP/Peds: Electronic Fetal Monitoring Certificate (C.EFM) of Added Qualification from NCC within 1 year of eligibility.
Experience
- Two to five years previous inpatient nursing experience preferred.

- Knowledge of computer resources.
