Work Schedule: This is a casual/PRN position. Casual/PRN employees work on an ‘as needed’ basis to meet the needs of the business.  Work days/hours will often vary from week to week. Some evening and weekends may be required.

Performs medical physics quality assurance, calibration testing, consultation, research and development, education, and produces dosimetric treatment plans as prescribed within scope of practice and task designation guidelines.

Responsibilities:

Essential Functions

Administrative

  • Participate in operations management and improvement activities.
  • Ensure appropriate billing practices are followed.
  • Consult on and informs clinical program development.
  • Assist with implementation of regulatory requirements.**
  • Participate in radiation therapy clinical trials.

Clinical Service

  • Develop computerized treatment plans per physician prescription and prepare the chart for treatment delivery.
  • Ensures measurement equipment (e.g., Survey meters, area detector, etc.) is calibrated and maintained according to manufacturer or regulatory guidelines.
  • Perform patient specific measurements (e.g., Electron cut out factor, in vivo, Thermoluminescent, etc.) to ensure accurate treatment.
  • Evaluate setup imaging protocols and assist in setups to ensure proper treatment.
  • Carry out equipment performance evaluation, ensuring proper maintenance of departmental equipment, reporting any deficiencies to supervisor.
  • Review dosimetric accuracy of patients on a regular basis.

Education

  • Educate patients on physics and treatment planning aspects of radiation therapy.
  • Participate in clinical education and training programs.
  • Provide medical physics training to care team for safe and effective radiotherapy.

Quality and Safety

  • Maintain documentation of quality assurance and calibration results.
  • Review service activities and assesses further medical physics follow-up.
  • Work with technologists to establish reference dose levels for imaging procedures in radiation therapy.
  • Perform radiation safety functions at the institution to ensure continuous and consistent radiation safety practices.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives as directed.

Job Requirements

Education

  • Master’s degree in physics, dosimetry, engineering or related field required.


Experience

  • Minimum one year practical, clinical experience in radiation therapy required.
  • Minimum one year experience in dosimetry and treatment planning external beam radiation therapy and brachytherapy required.
  • Radiation safety experience preferred.
  • Experience with Diagnostic Physics preferred.


License/Certifications

  • Certified Medical Dosimetrist (CMD) certification through the Medical Dosimetrist Certification Board or Radiation Oncology Physics (RADONCPHYS.ABR) certification through the American Board of Radiology preferred.


Skills/Knowledge/Abilities

  • Knowledge of radiation therapy protocols and practices.
  • Knowledge clinical quality assurance activities.
