Job Description

The Early Chemistry, Manufacturing, Controls (CMC) process development group serves as the link between discovery and manufacturing for oncology programs. Our mission is to ensure that emerging projects are scalable, manufacturable, cost-effective, and efficacious for patients. We collaborate closely with the Drug Discovery Units (DDUs) and other CMC teams, bridging the gap between research and manufacturing.

Job Description:

The intern will work on a project to determine nutrient usage, byproduct accumulation, and cytokine uptake in gamma delta T (gdT) cells across large-scale, small manufacturing model, and bioreactor processes.


How You Will Contribute:

  • Determine how media components are being used by gdT cells throughout manufacture across large-scale, small manufacturing model, and bioreactor processes
  • Assess any differences across the processes
  • Collaborate with Data and Automation teams to determine the impact of optimized nutrient availability and cytokine concentration using data obtained through a design of experiments approach (DoE) using a high-throughput system (HTS)
  • Correlate variables to in-process data and functional readouts with the help of the Data team
  • Assess top conditions in small manufacturing models

Internship Development Opportunities:

  • Gain understanding of media composition and its importance to cell health, expansion, and final drug product quality/potency
  • Understand how gdT cells use nutrients and cytokines throughout their expansion
  • Understand what the effect of changing nutrient availability during expansion has on final drug product quality/potency
  • Understand the gdT manufacturing processes and the relationship/crosstalk across manufacturing, scalable manufacturing models, and bioreactors
  • Develop lab skills and learn process workflows: aseptic technique, cell culture, cell counting; cell isolation, transduction, expansion, harvest, cryopreservation
  • Learn to communicate and work effectively in a cross-functional setting

Job Requirements:

  • This position will be Fully Onsite and require 4+ days in the Cambridge office per week.
  • Must be pursuing a Master’s or Doctoral Degree in a relevant Field of Study
  • Experience with cell culture, aseptic technique, and lab safety
  • Basic understanding of immunology
  • Basic knowledge of statistics
  • Prior experience in process development a plus
  • Prior experience with automation a plus
  • Prior experience with bioreactors a plus
  • Basic understanding of computer skills including MS Office (PowerPoint, Words, Excel)
  • Internet skills including use of e-mails, group messaging and information gathering
  • Highly reliable and a strong team player
  • Flexible with an attention to detail
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

Internship Eligibility

  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S. on a permanent basis without requiring sponsorship
  • Must be currently enrolled in a degree program graduating December 2025 or later
  • The internship program is 10-12 weeks depending on the two start dates (June 2nd- August 22nd) or (June 16th - August 29th)
    • The intern must be able to commit to one of these time frames
  • Able to work full time 40 hours a week during internship dates
  • Takeda does not provide a housing stipend or relocation support for the U.S Summer Internship Program

U.S. Hourly Wage Range:

$21.00 - $46.00

The estimated hourly range reflects an anticipated range for this position. The actual hourly wage offered will depend on the candidate’s school year/level to be entered following completion of internship.  The actual hourly wage offered will be in accordance with state or local minimum wage requirements for the job location. 

 

U.S. internship benefits vary by location and may include:
