About the Opportunity

Summary

We are seeking an experienced Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to play a crucial role in medical triage and acute medical care provision for Northeastern University students.  The selected candidate will collaborate closely with nursing staff to assess and address the medical needs of walk-in patients or those with same-day medical concerns.

This is a full-time position-35 hours per week. Either a four or five day a week schedule may be possible.  Schedule will include at least one evening per week, one Saturday (12pm-4pm) per month, and occasional holiday and on-call assignments. Minimum two to five years’ experience in management and provision of reproductive health services including experience with pregnancy options counseling.

Qualifications:

  • Certificate of Registration as Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts (For Physician Assistant - Bachelor's degree and graduation from Physician Asst. training program certified by the Board of Registration of Physician Assistants and passing of the certifying examination of the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants).
  • Massachusetts MCSR and Federal DEA certificates required.
  • Reproductive Health and Acute Care experience required.
  • Experience in Gender Affirming Care and pregnancy options counseling preferred.
  • Experience in STI and Contraceptive Management Required
  • Demonstrated success in working inclusively in a highly diverse student setting.
  • Must demonstrate enthusiasm in the mission of providing for the prevention, management, and treatment of the medical needs of Northeastern University students both individually and community wide.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to include effective interviewing and counseling skills.
  • Must be able to use tact, discretion, and sensitivity in patient interactions.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Must be able to work cooperatively with all University Health and Counseling Center staff and community-based hospitals and health care providers.

Responsibilities include:

  • Collaborate with nursing staff to assess and prioritize walk-in patients and those with same-day medical needs.

  • Conduct thorough medical assessments and provide timely and appropriate medical care consistent with current evidence-based guidelines. Identify patients requiring a higher level of care, including those needing urgent transfer to an emergency department.
  • Consult with primary care providers and specialists as needed for further evaluation and management.
  • Arrange referrals to local community urgent care settings and emergency department settings when appropriate
  • Document all clinical interactions in the electronic medical record, clearly, precisely and in a timely manner.
  • Review and develop UHCS acute care protocols.
  • Support campus wide health and wellness initiatives.
