Provides comprehensive patient care, consultation, and education to Rheumatology and Immunology patients and families in the outpatient clinic using a primary nursing framework.Job Description
Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
- Ongoing responsibility for education of patients and families regarding all aspects of the disease process.
- Actively participate in coordination of multi-disciplinary support for patients and their families (including medical-social services, psychology services, supportive care, home care, hospice care, etc.).
- Coordinate patient care, order diagnostic test, labs, convey finding to physician; coordinate patient appointments and assist with referrals.
- Manage outside calls regarding patient care and triage to include calls from families, outside physicians, clinics, out-patient labs, and home care organizations.
- Maintain medical records with appropriate and timely documentation of patient information.
- Assist with Pre-Certifications from carriers as necessary for procedures, drugs, hospital admissions, or any aspect of treatment.
- Assure for patient compliance with study protocols and adherence to treatment regimes. Assist data managers with specimen collections and recording of appropriate data as required.
- Act as liaison and team leader by facilitating communication and coordination of care between patients, families and health team members.
- Demonstrates cost-effective work habits by setting priorities and managing supplies (pharmaceutical and clinical) and equipment.
- Compliance with environmental and safety regulations, infection control and quality assurance.
- Actively participate in developing inservice education for co-workers, staff, and inpatient nurses when appropriate.
- Maintain current CPR.
- Initiate discharge instructions, update medication profiles, review treatment plans and protocol
- Ensure scheduling of diagnostic tests, procedures, and precertification of treatment is completed.
- Participate in research clinical trials.
- Provide patient and family education with regard to protocol therapy, medication side effects and disease processes.
- Assist with joint injections.
- Medication injections (IM/Sub Q) and providing instruction to patients and families for home injections.
- Allergy skin testing.
- Attend and participate in weekly team meetings and education sessions.

Required Qualifications:
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program with two years of nursing experience.
- Current RN licensure in the state of Missouri and/or Illinois, depending on location, in accordance with the Compact Act.
- Basic Life Support Certification or obtains certification within one month of employment. Online BLS certifications, those without a skills assessment component, are not sufficient to meet the BLS requirements.

$60,800.00 - $105,700.00 / AnnuallyThe salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University.
