What We Offer
The City and County of Denver offers a competitive salary commensurate with education and experience. The hiring range for this position is $67,500 - $95,000/year based on education and experience. We also offer generous benefits for full-time employees which include but are not limited to:

Location
The City and County of Denver supports a hybrid workplace model. Employees work where needed, at a job site several days a week and off-site as needed. Employees must work within the state of Colorado on their off-site days.
In this position you can expect to work three (3) days on-site at the National Western Center field office (5125-B Race Court, Denver, CO 80216).
What You’ll Do
The National Western Center (NWCO) represents a visionary transformation of the National Western Complex into a sustainable, year-round destination for the next 100 years. The revolutionary campus will provide a broad focus on entertainment, food, animal health and performance, water, energy, agriculture, rodeo, livestock, equestrian, and sustainability and the environment. Currently 110 acres, this program will expand the site to 250 acres of multiuse facilities in the heart of Denver.
The Mayor’s Office of the National Western Center is responsible for the planning, design, and construction of the new campus. The key partners include National Western Center Authority, Western Stock Show Association, Colorado State University, the Denver Museum of Nature and Science and History Colorado – a collaboration that blends education, research, culture, and heritage. Our mission is clear: Convene the world at the National Western Center to lead, inspire, create, educate, and entertain in pursuit of global food solutions. Construction of the campus is underway. The current construction value for the multi-year National Western Center redevelopment program is over $1 billion dollars. Our team is seeking an experienced Senior Accountant to join the team. This is a limited term position with an expected end date of December 31, 2028.
As a Senior Accountant with the National Western Center, you will:
Perform capital finance and contract accounting work on complex, multifaceted projects including the reporting and tracking of revenues and expenditures of projects that have program and city-wide impact
Assist in delivering the NWCO program of infrastructure assets, provide a wide array of program analysis on capital planning and estimating
Support funding scenario analysis utilizing the NWCO Program reporting tools.
Perform specialized accounting functions in servicing and supporting the program or may service and support multiple client groups outside of the organization
Manage complex accounting functions for multiple funding sources
Support complex program purchasing activities involving multiple accounts or excessive costs
Ensure assets are received and accounted for, and analyze purchasing transactions and functions
Generate financial statements and reports for the department
Perform other duties as assigned
What You’ll Bring
We are seeking an experienced Accountant with a meticulous and methodical approach, exceptional attention to detail, and prior experience with government and/or cost accounting.
Our ideal candidate has some or all the following experience, skills, and characteristics:
High degree of accuracy and attention to detail
Previous experience in government fund accounting highly preferred
Solves practical problems by choosing appropriately from a variety of mathematical and statistical techniques.
Experience with Workday is a plus
Demonstrated ability to convince others to follow recommendations and advice to bring them into compliance with regulations, policies, and standards
Independent problem solver and self-motivated
Proven ability to perform complex financial research and investigations
Genuine enthusiasm and passion for the National Western Center program, with a motivation to contribute to the success of the program and make an impact
Candidates who are open to acquiring new skills, eager to adapt to new challenges, and excited about continuous growth and development

Required Minimum Qualifications
Education requirement: Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration.
Experience Requirement: Three (3) years of professional level accounting experience reconciling accounting discrepancies, analyzing expenditures, and preparing financial reports.
Education/Experience Equivalency: No substitution of experience for education is permitted. Additional appropriate education may be substituted for experience requirements.
License/Certifications: None
