Job Description:
Pennington Biomedical Research Center, a world-renowned academic research institute of Louisiana State University, is seeking a Nurse Administrator/Director of Nursing in the Clinical Trials Unit.
The Director of Nursing will be responsible for overseeing medical assessment of research participants, providing healthcare in both inpatient and outpatient clinics, and performing research procedures under a licensed physician's supervision.
Major Responsibilities
Oversee all nursing services, including direct supervision of staff in both inpatient and outpatient clinics (as appropriate). Responsibilities include adjustment of staff to ensure adequate coverage.
Serve as a clinical resource and professional role model.
Manage the delivery of patient care in a clinical trials setting. This includes skills training, development of methods of procedure (MOPs), and nursing notes adhering to study guidelines.
Oversee the employee health program for Pennington Biomedical, including managing lab reviews, injury reporting, and vaccination requirements.
Compile budgets for studies, create procedural notes, order equipment and supplies, and track expenses.
Interpret policies, procedures, standards, and regulations for personnel, patients, medical staff, and the public.
Develop and implement quality assurance programs to monitor and improve patient care and clinical trial processes. They will conduct regular audits and reviews of clinical trial protocols and procedures.
Participate in setting goals and objectives for the clinical trials unit and identify opportunities for growth and improvement in clinical trial operations.

Personnel Management and Mentoring
Create and implement training programs for nursing staff to enhance their skills and knowledge in clinical trials, providing ongoing education and professional development opportunities. Conduct regular performance evaluations for nursing staff, provide constructive feedback and setting performance goals, and develop and implement performance improvement plans as needed. Promoting a collaborative and supportive work environment and addressing and resolving conflicts among staff promptly and effectively are also key responsibilities.
Communication and Collaboration
Facilitate communication and collaboration between the clinical trials unit and other departments, ensuring seamless integration of clinical trial activities with overall patient care. Engage with stakeholders, including investigators, sponsors, and regulatory bodies, to ensure successful trial execution and represent the clinical trials unit in meetings and discussions with internal and external partners. Additionally, advocate for the needs and rights of clinical trial participants, ensuring that patients receive comprehensive information about trial protocols and their participation.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor of Science in nursing (BSN) or a related field.
Registered Nurse (RN) Licensure: An active RN license in the state of Louisiana, adhering to the standards set by the Louisiana State Board of Nursing, is required.
Five (5) to seven (7) years of clinical nursing experience in clinical nursing, with a comprehensive understanding of patient care.
Previous involvement in clinical trials or research experience with knowledge of clinical research methodologies, regulatory compliance, and ethical considerations specific to clinical trials.
Comprehensive understanding of healthcare regulations and compliance standards, including those specific to clinical trials and research within Louisiana.
Proven ability to lead nursing teams, manage department budgets, and implement policies to enhance patient care quality.
Strong interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with multidisciplinary teams, stakeholders, and regulatory bodies.
Aptitude for analyzing clinical data, monitoring trial progress, and addressing issues that arise during clinical research.
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree in nursing or a related field such as Healthcare Administration or Clinical Research.
Three (3) to five (5) years in a nursing leadership role, such as Nurse Manager or Clinical Supervisor, demonstrating the ability to manage and guide nursing teams effectively.
