Job Description:
Clinical case management will involve interactions with patients, students, other house officers, faculty members, technicians and clients in the veterinary teaching hospital. This position will involve primary case responsibility and exposure to small and large animals as well as exotic species, including wildlife. The intern will be required to participate in emergency duty with other members of the Ophthalmology Service.
The intern will participate in the clinical instruction of Phase 1 and Phase 2 students, will be included in the Ophthalmology journal club, book club and other educational programs associated with the service.
The intern will have the opportunity to develop and complete a research project during the program and will be involved in the data/sample collection and analysis, and other tasks as required for any ongoing research projects in the service.
Job Responsibilities:
50% Provide clinical care in the role of a veterinarian, i.e. examine patients, order tests, make diagnoses, prescribe treatments, and communicate with clients and referring veterinarians, for patients presented to their Specialty Service, during routine hours and will share emergency coverage (evening, weekends, holidays) with other team members.
40% Participate and assist with ongoing research projects that the Specialty service is currently performing. This will involve data/sample collection for ongoing projects and can also include assisting with grant writing, data interpretation, manuscript writing.
10% Participate in the clinical and tutorial instruction of Phase I and II students, including daily student rounds; and other duties as assigned.
Participate in their Specialty Service Journal club, attend all HO Rounds/Seminar (VMED 7001) sessions and other seminars which are requirements of the Intern’s home Specialty Service.

DVM or Equivalent

Required to work a variety of shifts including nights, weekends, holidays, and "on-call"/relief shifts.
Per PS 18- This position is a part of the Emergency Response Personnel - these personnel are linked with the hospital during any emergency response event and are expected to report in and perform as outlined in the emergency response plan.
Required to be capable of more than 50 pounds, standing or walking for prolonged periods, able to reach above and below the shoulder, vision (near sight), vision (far sight), sit, push/pulling, grasping, climbing, crawling, twisting, squatting, sitting, and/or bending
*Due to the nature of this position and/or responsibilities, this position is subject to random drug & alcohol testing in accordance with University Policy Statement 67*
