Reporting to the CEO of Southern Africa, you will drive the team and the overall SQHE vision to deliver the South African and Group standards. Key job responsibilities

  • Responsible for defining, implementing, monitoring and continually improving the Occupational Health, Safety, and Environment process of the Subsidiary, in compliance with the Air Liquide Group requirements

  • Enforce the application of risk management procedures in new business developments and investments

  • Establish and update the SQHE policy and Management Commitment document

  • Communicate to the organization the regulatory, Subsidiary and Group SQHE expectations

  • Measure, document and report the Subsidiary's SQHE performance internally and to group

  • Assess opportunities for improvement; set and achieve goals based on the Subsidiary's SQHE performance

  • Ensure SQHE Plans are developed and implemented at Subsidiary and facility levels

  • Provide knowledgeable resource for plant personnel on SQHE issues

  • Develop a culture that encourages near-miss incident reporting and helps ensure appropriate response to reports, by consistent communication and Behavioral safety visits

  • Define with Operations the frequency and responsibilities for facilities SQHE inspections

  • Prepare and organize SQHE meetings at the Subsidiary level, ensure deployment at facility level

  • Ensure personnel involvement in SQHE

  • Set department priorities to effectively support sustainable compliance on Safety Quality, Health, and Environmental issues

  • Prioritize issues and projects to achieve sustainable compliance with all applicable mandatory regulations and Group requirements

  • Help develop SQHE related training and qualification activities and requirements;

  • Research and drive implementation of SQHE best practices

  • Visit all assigned facilities & customer installations regularly and assess the status of compliance on SQHE requirements

  • Stay current on regulatory issues and trends through seminars, other Subsidiaries or Group HSE departments, and networking

  • Communicate and coordinate efforts with other Subsidiaries or Group HSE Department

  • Participate in procedure development

  • Managing full understanding and implementation of the IMS in Subsidiary

  • Support IMS training programs

  • Provide regular performance reports, improvement recommendations to the subsidiary GM and follow up implementation

  • Coordinate with CIA (Chief Industrial Officer) for conducting internal and group audits

  • Interact with entity key entity managers but as well with Group Representatives at different levels (other countries, Cluster, Group HO Safety and IMS team, Industrial auditors, Design Authorities, Subject Matter experts, …)

Security:

  • Safeguard AL employees and facilities within his purview, whilst promoting the Group Security Policy 

  • Define the Entity’s Security procedures and measures and contributes to their implementation

  • Remain continually informed of the overall situation in the country and local incidents

  • Keep abreast of Group projects which might affect operations in the country

  • Monitor Internal and external environment 

  • Develop a network of relations in the country with security contractors validated beforehand

  • Is responsible for the annual action plan in view of the updated risk assessment and the situation of the Entity and sites

  • Design of strategy, programmes, training tools and Security visits 

  • Contribute to development of staff “security culture”

  • Ensure compliance with the Group Information Protection

  • Contribute to raise management and employees' awareness about Digital risks

  • Ensure compliance with local laws and regulations regarding Information Protection

  • Ensure the Implementation of BCP (Business Continuity plan) at the entity level

  • Interact with entity key entity managers but as well with Group Representatives at different levels (other countries, Cluster, Group HO Safety and IMS team, Industrial auditors, Design Authorities, Subject Matter experts, …)

Are you a MATCH?

Education & Qualification:

  • Engineering, technical or management degree, or equivalent

  • Government Certificate of Competence (Certificated Engineer) will be a definite advantage

  • Additional professional qualification(s), certification in Safety, Quality is important 

Experience

10+ years minimum of related experience 

Languages

Working  language - fluent, spoken and written  English

Professional experience

  • Previous appointment as a Certificated Engineer (Competent Person) as per General Machinery Regulation 2

  • Professional experience in the following domains is a must:

    • Safety Management, with at least 5+ years of experience (Safety Site Director/Manager in Chemicals or Petrochemicals, any reputed manufacturing/industrial setup) 

    • Safety and Quality Management Systems (OHSAS 18001, ISO 45001, ISO 9000, ISO 22000, …) 

    • Process risk, industrial audit, system management, and/or industrial operations management.

    • Team management 

  • Professional experience in Security is a plus but not the decision criteria
