The Oklahoma Water Resources Board is a state agency responsible for overseeing the complex mission of managing, monitoring, planning for, and financing the state's water resources and infrastructure towards reliable future supplies that support strong communities, commerce, and the environment. The agency seeks a full-time Dam Safety Engineer Intern to join our family of professionals delivering exceptional services and expertise to Oklahomans.

Trial Period: 12 months by (OAC) 260:130-19-30
Travel: Occasional fieldwork, training & conference attendance with overnight travel is required.

The positions involve performing various activities to support the Dam Safety Program. Examples of duties that will be performed include, but are not limited to:
Review and approve engineering reports, plans/specifications, hydraulic and hydrologic studies, and designs for construction, rehabilitation, or alteration of dams and/or spillways.
Review dam safety inspection reports for any deficiencies.
Review dam safety applications and recommend to the Board for approval of permits.
Review hazard classification of dams.
Review and conduct hydrologic computer modeling.
General enforcement of dam safety rules and regulations.
Perform engineering inspections for dam projects.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Competencies: Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities required duties at this level include knowledge of basic engineering principles and techniques of engineering planning, of equipment and materials used in engineering operations, of specialized subjects used in the fields of engineering, such as mathematics, statistics, mechanics, power, physics, and chemistry; and of strength of materials. Ability is required to apply engineering principles to practical engineering problems; to use engineering equipment and tools, including computer applications; to make, read, and interpret engineering drawings and specifications; to express ideas clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; to relate abstract ideas to actual needs and adopt a practical course of action; to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others; to analyze situations and determine sound courses of action; to organize and conduct several activities simultaneously; and to write reports.
Level III:
This is the Engineer-in-Training level where incumbents will initially perform a variety of routine engineering tasks in a training status under close supervision. Incumbents will perform basic engineering tasks such as the review of less complex plans, performance of basic engineering calculations, the writing of permits, the performance of computer modeling, and the inspection of parts of an engineering project.
Level IV:
Incumbents in this level are engineering interns who perform technical engineering duties in support of a program or project. This level is generally limited to providing advice and guidance as opposed to directing engineering activities. The complexity of projects assigned, responsibility assumed and degree of supervision necessary will change as the individual advances through this level.
Level V:
Incumbents in this level are experienced engineering interns who perform advanced technical engineering duties in support of a program or project. This level provides advice and guidance as opposed to directing engineering activities. The complexity of projects assigned, responsibility assumed and degree of supervision necessary will change as the individual advances through this level.
Education and Experience:
Level III: Education and Experience requirements at this level consist of a bachelor’s degree in engineering from a college or university recognized by the Oklahoma State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors, in accordance with the standards of the Accreditation Board of Engineering Technology or a bachelor’s degree in construction management with heavy or civil option.
Level IV: Education and Experience requirements at this level consist of registration as an Engineer Intern.
Level V: Education and Experience requirements at this level consist of registration as an Engineer Intern and one year experience in the practice of engineering; or an equivalent combination of education and experience, substituting the completion of a master’s degree in engineering for the required one year of experience in the practice of engineering.
Special Requirement: Persons with out of state registration as an Engineer Intern must transfer their registration with the State of Oklahoma through the Oklahoma State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors within six months from the date of appointment.
