Job Description:
Under limited supervision from the Chief Nursing Officer, and within the scope of the RN licensure, performs supervisory nursing work, responsible for the 24-hour supervision of all health services for the adult correctional facilities (Omaha base), assists nursing leadership as requested; supervise professional and paraprofessional staff in the planning, implementing, delivery, and evaluation of nursing services. Positions in this class are responsible for a nursing services area program or unit, which includes the supervision of assigned staff and policy/procedure development for assigned area.
DUTIES:
*Directly supervise professional and paraprofessional health services staff in providing quality patient care. Complete performance evaluations on assigned health services employees. Schedule nursing staff to assigned shift and work areas.
*Train employees or staff in providing nursing care of incarcerated population. May assist as needed in required nursing in-service training programs.
*Resolve conflicts between patients and employees as well as personnel related problems.
*Assure high standards of infection control.
*Assist in the administration of the quality assurance program as well as utilization review of the corrections accreditation program/process.
*Assure that adequate standards of medical record keeping are maintained. Completes various nursing service reports.
*Responsible for inventory control of all narcotics, syringes, medications and supplies.
Requirements / Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications: A current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in Nebraska or authority based on the Nurse Licensure Compact to practice as a Registered Nurse in Nebraska and one year of experience assigning, reviewing, leading, or supervising the work of others.
Preferred Qualifications: Prior correctional health service experience desired, but not required.
Other: Must possess a valid driver's license. Applicants accepting a job offer must pass the following pre-employment exams in this order: medical exam, and at a randomly announced time, pass a drug test. Once at the Staff Training Academy, must successfully complete the fully paid NE Corrections Training Program.
