Job Summary:

Work Schedule: PRN/Casual, 8a-4p

Responsible for driving passenger bus to transport qualified individuals to and from the hospital.

***Chauffeur License Required***

Responsibilities:

Essential Functions

1. Promotes positive relations when interacting with patients, visitors, families, physicians, customers and co-workers. 

  • Greet, smiles and makes eye contact.
  • Introduces self by name.
  • Volunteers to help co-workers and other employees.
  • Addresses patients and others by surname.
  • Responds quickly to patients and/or other peoples' needs.
  • Excel in a culture of Engagement where we have the responsibility to be welcoming, assuring and compassionate – ALWAYS.
  • We demonstrate this by following the Standards of Compassionate Care and AIDET.

2. Performs operation of Medi-Bus in a safe and secure manner. 

  • The driver will operate the Medi-Bus in a safe and defensive manner obeying all traffic laws and receiving no complaints about the operation of the bus.
  • The operator will meet all schedule demands and pick up and deliver patients on time.
  • Uses sound judgment when operating equipment or vehicles in bad weather or with difficult patients.
  • Takes proper precautions with mechanical breakdowns and maintenance problems.

3. Properly transfers and assists patients to and from the bus. 

  • Performs services in a courteous and respectful manner to all patients.
  • Safely assist all patients to and from the bus.
  • Use correct equipment to most effectively transfer the patient to and from the bus.
  • Incident reports will be completed when problems occur and will be communicated to the Director of PT.

4. Provides patient transportation within the hospital. 

  • Transport patient in a safe manner using equipment in good working condition.
  • Insures patient safety when patient has other equipment.
  • Insures the patient is the correct patient by checking the identification bracelet and checking with the nursing floor for a patient being discharged from the hospital.
  • Follow daily schedule and transports patients in a timely and efficient manner.

5. Provides completion of daily vehicle maintenance and trip logs. Complete logs before ending the work shift.

    6. Provides a schedule for vehicle routine and preventative maintenance. 

    • Monitors scheduled maintenance requirements.
    • Communicates with PT secretary when preventive maintenance is needed.
       

    7. Performs general cleaning of vehicle to insure the vehicle is clean and safe.

    • Properly sweeps out and general housekeeping of the vehicle at the end of each shift.
    • Insures outside of vehicle maintains the proper appearance.

    Job Requirements

    Education

    • High School graduate or equivalent ability to read traffic signs, addresses, and hospital schedule sheets.


    Experience

    • Requires experience driving and operating a passenger bus, general automotive maintenance and knowledge of traffic laws and regulations.


    License/Certifications

    • Chauffeur License (CL) required.
    • Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) strongly preferred at time of hire, required within 3 months of hire.


    Skills/Knowledge/Abilities

    • Skilled in promoting positive relations when interacting with patients or other customers.
    • This position requires knowledge of traffic laws and regulations, operation of a passenger bus, and general automotive maintenance.
    • This position requires skills in driving and operating a passenger bus, light repair and maintenance of a passenger bus vehicle.
    • Requires the ability to exhibit positive relations which includes being courteous and respectful of patients with attention to patient safety and comfort concerns.
    • Assist disabled patients to and from the bus, including using wheel chair lifts, lifting patients, and use of other equipment.
    • Cost effectively manage time and routes at all times.
