About This Opportunity 

This role is perfect for an experienced and passionate veterinary nurse or technician looking to advance their career in anaesthesia within a dynamic, collaborative, and teaching-focused environment. You'll work alongside specialists, residents, and students, providing high-level anaesthesia support across a variety of species, from routine procedures to complex, high-risk cases. 

Key responsibilities will include: 

  • Supervise and instruct veterinary and veterinary technician students in clinical anaesthesia, including patient examination, preparation, monitoring, recovery, and safe restraint techniques.

  • Manage, maintain, and ensure the proper use of anaesthesia-related equipment in both small animal and equine hospitals, including cleaning, repairs, and stock management.

    Assist in the preparation of animals for surgical and medical procedures, ensuring correct setup and safe handling of patients before sedation and anaesthesia.

  • Work closely with veterinarians, veterinary specialists, and support staff to ensure seamless patient treatment and care across various hospital areas, including ICU, radiography, CT, and general wards.

  • Assess, monitor, and provide high-quality care for patients in ICU, isolation, and hospital wards, maintaining excellent husbandry standards.

  • Provide administrative assistance, reception duties, and use practice management software for clinic operations, inventory management, and business processes.

  • Adhere to and contribute to the review of standard operating procedures (SOPs) for nursing, ensuring compliance with workplace health and safety, ethical standards, and regulations.

  • Support the clinical training and teaching of veterinary and veterinary technology students, providing hands-on guidance and professional mentorship.

  • Deliver a high level of customer service to clinic clients, students, staff, and external stakeholders, ensuring professional communication and patient care coordination.

As a 24-hour operation, your take-home salary will be dependent on your specific roster, including loadings of 50% for weekend shifts, 25% for night shifts, and 15% for afternoon shifts.

Afternoon shifts are shifts commencing at or after midday and finishing at or before midnight, Night Shift are shifts extending beyond midnight and finishing at or before 6AM. About You

  • Cert IV in Veterinary Nursing, Bachelor of Applied Science (Veterinary Technology), or Bachelor of Veterinary Technology, with at least 2 years of nursing experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Proven ability to maintain high professional standards in all areas of veterinary nursing.

  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to work flexibly, take initiative, and operate autonomously.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to build and manage professional relationships with colleagues, clients, and students.

  • Understanding of ethical principles and best practices in veterinary nursing, along with workplace policies, including health and safety, employment equity, and anti-discrimination.

  • Effective team player who fosters positive working relationships in a multidisciplinary environment.

  • Enthusiastic, self-motivated, and committed to continuous learning and professional growth.

  • Interest in supporting the clinical training of veterinary and veterinary technology students.

  • Willingness to participate in professional service activities, such as VNCA, RSPCA, and community outreach programs.

  • Must possess or be able to apply for a radiation license.

In addition, the following mandatory requirements apply:

  • Work Rights: You must maintain unrestricted work rights in Australia for the duration of this appointment to apply. Employer sponsored work rights are not available for this appointment. 

  • Mandatory Immunisations: It is a condition of employment for this role that you will be required to provide evidence of immunisation against certain vaccine preventable diseases.
