Summary

Persons filling these positions will be used to augment the duties of lab technicians/technologist during vacation time. All functions will be performed under the direct supervision of a medical technologist/technician or histotechnologist/histotechnician as applicable.

Performs waived testing unsupervised. Performs blood bank duties approved by the Medical Director. Performs lab/blood bank maintenance and equipment QC. Performs moderate and high complexity testing supervised by a MLT/MT. Performs receipt of samples into lab and investigates issues with sample collection. Performs daily, weekly, monthly, or as needed, maintenance on instruments and equipment as appropriate. Follows established laboratory and hospital policies for universal precautions, safety, fire safety, disasters, exposure, blood borne and airborne pathogen, hazardous materials and chain of custody procedures. Follows established hospital policies for maintaining a professional, responsible, and courteous environment for patients, visitors, and fellow employees. Performs phlebotomy (as required by position and location) as appropriate for the patient requiring this procedure. Enrollment in an accredited MLT or HT school is required.

Light lifting up to 25 pounds, general motion including bending, squatting, reaching, carrying, pushing, and pulling. Manual dexterity. Ability to speak plainly. Near visual acuity, ability to discern colors. May involve skin, eye, mucous membrane, or parenteral contact with blood or other potentially infectious material.
