Job Summary:
Location: Methodist Physicians Clinic - Colon and Rectal SurgeryAddress: 9850 Nicholas St., Suite 100 - Omaha, NE
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 6:00 AM - 3:00 PM
Accountable for the delivery of quality care to patients and families according to the individualized needs of the patient. The OPSC RN must have the ability to demonstrate knowledge of basic sterile technique by ensuring all instruments, equipment, and supplies are available for procedures. Must be able to demonstrate attention to detail to ensure physician preferences are met when scrubbed in or circulating in cases. RN must be able to exhibit assessment and reassessment skills in order to maintain patient safety. This includes but is not limited to the patient’s stability pre-procedure, the patient’s tolerance of pain both intra-operatively and post-operatively, provides support and relaxation intra-operatively, evaluation of patient’s response to medications, and follow-up assessment of patient’s pain and potential infection status. Must be able to communicate clearly with all members of the healthcare team. Must be willing to learn all principles of infection control to maintain care of equipment and supplies post procedure.
Responsibilities:
Education
- Successful completion of annual mandatory education requirements.
- Graduate from an accredited Diploma School of Nursing/College of Nursing with an Associate of Science Degree in Nursing (ASN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required.
- Bachelors of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
Experience
- Acute care or surgical nursing experience preferred.
License/Certifications
- Current valid Registered Nurse (RN) license, valid compact multi-state license, or a temporary permit while awaiting licensure required for work state.
- Current American Heart Association or American Red Cross Basic Life Support (BLS) strongly preferred at time of hire, required within 3 months of hire.
- Current American Heart Association Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Certification required.
- Certification(s) in area of specialty preferred.
Skills/Knowledge/Abilities
- Strong interpersonal skills necessary to effectively communicate and interact with patients, family members, staff, and co-workers.
- Ability to multi-task and prioritize work assignments.
- Ability to learn, retain, and utilize computer skills that are required for department.
- Ability to examine data, draw conclusions, and resolve/improve issues related to work flow, patient/physician satisfaction and productivity.
- Ability to process and manage confidential information with discretion and according to HIPAA protocols.
