Danafarber    Boston, MA, US    2025-03-12

Job posting number: #210170 (Ref:df43554)

Job Description

A research technician position is open to join the Johnstone laboratory in the Department of Pathology at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. Dr. Johnstone studies how DNA is packaged within the nucleus of cancer cells and how alterations of packaging impact transcriptional programs and tumor cell biology. It has long been characterized that the nuclei of cancer cells look atypical by histology, and this feature is used by pathologists for the accurate diagnosis of malignancy. We aim to more fully characterize the molecular mechanisms underlying this phenomenon, specifically focused on how the DNA fiber is topologically and epigenetically organized within the nucleus and how cancer-specific changes to this organization relate to tumor morphology and impact tumor cell state.  We use engineered tumor models, advanced genomics techniques and high-resolution imaging approaches to probe genome topology and chromatin state.

The successful candidate is a highly-motivated, bachelor’s level graduate strong academics. He/she will contribute a culture of intellectual rigor, joyful scientific discovery and collaboration.  He/she will work closely with Dr. Johnstone to lead a project focused on defining oncogene amplification and genomic structure in sarcoma.  The candidate will help lead priority research and contribute to novel directions for the laboratory.

The ideal candidate is an eager learner and seeking a dynamic research environment in which they can advance their scientific and research skills.  Dr. Johnstone is committed to the training and support of the candidate.  This includes career mentoring and education training if this fits the candidate’s long-term interests. Dr. Johnstone will be available to advise candidates on future education plans, to include graduate or medical school. We are seeking candidates with at least two years of availability.  A collaborative, positive and enthusiastic scientist will flourish in the lab and be very supported in their future ambitions.

Please provide a cover letter with a description of your previous research, reasons for wanting to pursue research in the Johnstone laboratory and a copy of your CV with your undergraduate GPA. Three references will be required if selected for an interview. JOB IS FROM: nursingjobs.siteVIEW
