Job Summary

The Slate Captain is a key member of the Enrollment Management unit leadership team with a focus in achieving the University's enrollment management goals by providing leadership for Enrollment Management systems/projects and serve as lead functional administrator for Enrollment Management systems, specifically Technolutions Slate CRM, focusing on efficiencies, system optimization, governance, and collaborative system use. Areas of functional technical focus include system and process design, data management, data integrity, and technical support to users. Primary functions include overseeing and documenting all current and proposed operational processes to ensure data integrity for the applicable Banner modules, Slate, and admission application processes. This position will also provide support to enrollment and student success leadership in changes and innovations to student services. The Director of EM Systems/Slate Captain is a hands-on position that serves as the lead for ongoing development of AU's Slate instance to support strategic and innovative work to meet enrollment goals. Through close collaboration with Undergraduate Admissions, Graduate Admissions Operations, the Graduate School, Communications and Marketing, the Registrar's Office, Information Technology, and other units, this position will lead efforts of ongoing implementation and optimization of processes within Slate to meet University enrollment goals. Supervises, directly and indirectly, analysts and other staff who work heavily within Slate and, as necessary, contracted professional services and temporary/student workers. This position will regularly assess and make strategic and operational improvements and recommendations for Slate, develop/maintain system access governance, and serve as the primary technical and systems Slate expert for AU, and a roadmap for continued system expansion and optimization.

Responsibilities

The duties include, but are not limited to:



SLATE KNOWLEDGE, TRAINING & SUPPORT: Maintain a comprehensive and expert knowledge of Slate (structures, tables, forms, data integrity and security, flow of data across processes/units, maintain department security/user profiles, etc.). Train users and provide technical support for local and baseline and processes, writing and testing SQL and Perl programs, analyzing and solving technical issues, responding to ad hoc information requests, and developing and maintaining written procedures for all processes. Serve as primary contact for program design in SQL. Work with outside vendors (Common Application, CRM System, etc.) to customize the software to meet the needs of the department or to deliver critical data/processes. Design and implement Slate tools to most effectively, efficiently and strategically execute recruitment and yield efforts.

SLATE MANAGEMENT: Manage data and records in Slate as it relates to prospective students, applications, organizations, organization contacts, community-based organizations, alumni volunteers, student ambassadors, etc. Create, test, and maintain data imports and exports, including the Common Application, ACT, College Board, and other vendor files. Work with users to monitor, integrate, and automate Slate data transfers and develop reporting. Maintain data integrity by developing and performing regular comprehensive data audits and cleanup projects. Build and maintain all slate-hosted applications to ensure the seamless import, mapping and reporting of all data.

SLATE GOVERNANCE: Develop and maintain a Slate governance structure to ensure information security and appropriate system access. Lead project management and planning related to Slate. Develop timelines for completing new projects, evaluate the effectiveness of projects to ensure outcomes were achieved, and help create the annual strategic technology timeline for the departments. Serve on the Enrollment Management Leadership Team and Enrollment Management Council, and serve as the primary liaison with IT, Institutional Effectiveness, Academic Affairs, Finance, and other departments across the University to represent the business needs of Enrollment Management as it relates to Slate. Lead and/or participates in cross-departmental projects with University-wide implications as appropriate.

STAFF SUPERVISION: Supervise directly and indirectly staff responsible for Enrollment Management systems including, but not limited to, Slate. Coordinate and provide thorough and timely staff/user training for efficient use of Slate and report generation. Serve as the Slate resource for users university-wide, including Communications & Marketing, Information Technology, Academic Advising, Alumni Engagement, Student Engagement, Athletics, Honors Program, etc. Co-manage internal and external Slate user accounts and permissions in Slate (governance and security).

OTHER DUTIES: Perform other duties as assigned. Other duties and special projects may be assigned to meet the department or University needs.

Required Qualifications

Master's degree from an accredited college or university and 3 years of experience with Technolutions Slate CRM. Experience managing and supervising full-time staff.

Preferred Qualifications

Five (5) or more years of related work experience with Slate or other higher education admissions systems and software
Experience in working in college admissions or operations, specifically in a leadership position
Experience in HTML and SQL
Experience with Banner Student Information System

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

KNOWLEDGE

Proficient in Microsoft Office (including Outlook, Word, and Excel) and other computer software/databases

Experience managing full time staff with a demonstrated ability to provide independent leadership and direction in in a fast - paced office setting

SKILLS

Excellent problem solving and investigative skills. Ability to recognize potential for errors with processes/reports, and how to solve those errors

Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills

ABILITIES

Ability to maintain confidentiality

Ability to handle multiple priorities; communicate well in written and verbal form with staff he/she works with and supports; ability to train users on computer system processes ability to constantly search for better and more efficient processes

Effective as a team player as well as complete quality work independently

Flexible to meet critical needs and a willingness to learn

Ability to use one reporting tool to manipulate data.

Shift/Salary/Benefits

Shift: Days; Monday - Friday *Work outside of regular business hours may be required.

Pay Band: B16

Salary: $95,200/annually - $100,200/annually

Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of the selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) of the position
