The IBCLC Registered Nurse is responsible for the coordination of clinical activities for the breastfeeding mothers and infants. Activities include, but are not limited to, use of the nursing process in the utilization of skills in organization, planning, implementing, evaluating, and providing care as it relates to the specific needs of the mother/baby dyad. IBCLC Registered Nurses also supervise the activities of Licensed Practical Nurses, Unit Assistants and Certified Nursing Assistants. As Registered Nurses they work within the framework of the State Nurse Practice Act and follow hospital policies and procedures. As IBCLCs they work within the framework of the Scope of Practice for The International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners. The IBCLC Registered Nurse also complies with hospital and nursing standards in the performance of job duties and responsibilities. The IBCLC Registered Nurse will support the goals and objectives of the department and of the hospital.
Minimum Qualifications:
Successfully completed Board Certified Nursing Program and maintains IBCLC status by renewing every 5 years by CERPS or exam and every 10 years by exam. Current LA RN licensure. BLS required upon hire, and NRP required within 90 days of hire. Certifications may be through any International Liaison Committee on resuscitation (ILCOR) provided courses such as but not limited to: Ochsner Health System, American Heart Association and American Red Cross. The ILCOR course must include a manikin check off. IBCLC required within 12 months of hire.
Physical Demands:
Must possess good physical health. Some requirements include but are not limited to standing, sitting or walking for long periods of time. Lifting at least 50 pounds is required.

Frequently (34%-66%) - lifting, carrying, pushing/pulling, reaching, handling/feeling, talking, hearing,
Occasionally (1%-33%) – climbing (stairs, ladders, etc.), stooping, crouching
