College/Department Information
Training Future Leaders in Anesthesiology & Perioperative Patient Care. In our long history as an academic anesthesia department, The Medical College of Georgia's Department of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine has established clerkships, a pain fellowship, and an anesthesiology critical care fellowship. A joint emergency medicine/anesthesiology critical care fellowship started in 2019, and we welcomed our first pediatric anesthesiology fellow in 2020. Our anesthesiology residency program provides comprehensive training in perioperative patient care, pain management and critical care medicine. We pride ourselves in training expert clinicians who are independent and confident when they graduate from our program. Our goal is to provide outstanding care to our patients by integrating education, evidence-based medicine, and research in daily patient care. Our board-certified faculty paired with the school's high-tech simulation lab provide an immersive learning experience. We believe in encouraging open feedback, new ideas, and innovations that lead to efficient clinical care and build strong relationships with our faculty and staff.
Job Summary
Provide general anesthesia services in the adult OR under the supervision/direction of an anesthesiologist.
Responsibilities
The duties include, but are not limited to:
Select, assemble, and test anesthetic equipment for designated operations.
Maintain patients in surgical anesthetic state, adjusting oxygen and gas flow and keeping air tubes in a necessary position, or injects prescribed intravenous anesthetic.
Periodically takes and records patient's blood pressure, respiration, and pulse; watches for significant physical changes, such as dilation of pupils and changes in skin color.
Take necessary remedial action as indicated, such as aspiration of throat and administration of oxygen to prevent asphyxiation, strangulation, or surgical shock.
Take appropriate precautions to minimize risks of infection of patients and all other healthcare professionals involved. Manage emergency situations including initiating and participating in cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
Record data on patients; clinical chart relative to patient's condition prior to, during, and following administration of anesthetic, and type of anesthesia used.
Ensure patient stability and safe transfer to the post anesthesia care unit recovery room and leave special instructions for post-operative care when necessary.
Clean and sterilize anesthetic equipment or direct such actions; checks equipment to see that it is ready for use.
Perform other related duties as described herein.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Nursing from an accredited Nurse Anesthetist Program, with Certification in the State of Georgia to practice and an Active license in the State of Georgia. A minimum of one year of acute care experience. Experience cannot be substituted for educational requirements.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Proficient in Microsoft Office and other computer software/databases.
SKILLS
Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
ABILITIES
Ability to maintain confidentiality.
Shift/Salary/Benefits
Part-Time (0.5 FTE)
Shift: Days; Monday - Friday (Work outside of normal business hours may be required).
Salary Range: $83,250-$103,300 annually.
Pay Band: B20
Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of the selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) of the position.
Recruitment Period: Until Filled.
