Position Description:

The Community Health Outreach Research Coordinator will oversee and support LCTRC-community health partnerships in Owensboro, KY. This role involves collaborating with organizations and investigators to recruit and retain our target population for essential health needs and priority assessments, as well as clinical and translational research studies. The organizer will be imbedded in the Owensboro region and will work closely with our community partners in rural regions of the Commonwealth. The coordinator’s responsibilities will be crucial in assisting LCTRC members and our partners to attain cultural competence regarding health literacy and research that addresses community needs.

  • This position is funded through a grant until 06/30/2029 and subject to the availability of funds.

  • This position is grant funded until 06/30/2029. Continued employment contingent on grant renewals.

  • This is a grant funded position not to exceed 5 years.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain partnerships with Owensboro and rural community organizations, stakeholders, and LCTRC members to support health initiatives and research projects.

  • Coordinate focus groups or small group interviews to identify and address barriers to community-engaged clinical & translational research.

  • Screen, recruit, retain, follow, and engage target populations for participation in health needs assessments, clinical trials, and translational research studies using traditional approaches and mydatahelps.

  • Organize, coordinate and implement community outreach activities, including educational workshops, health initiatives, community events, and other events aimed at improving health literacy, awareness, and equities, while reducing health disparities.

  • Collaborate with LCTRC investigators and community scientists to design and implement culturally competent health programs and community-engaged research methodologies.

  • Maintain records and prepare reports on the effectiveness of outreach efforts and community engagement activities, providing regular reports to the Co-Leads and Program Evaluator.

  • Assist in the development of materials and resources to support community health education, health awareness, outreach, and engagement.

  • Serve as a liaison between the community and LCTRC researchers, ensuring clear and effective communication.

  • Identify and advocate for community health needs and priorities within the LCTRC framework, contributing to the development of responsive and impactful research initiatives.

  • Stay informed about current trends and best practices in the implementation of health literacy, community health awareness, community-engaged clinical & translational research.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in public health, social work, community health,.

  • Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in community health, outreach, or a related area.

  • Strong understanding of public health principles & practices, health literacy, cultural competence, and community engagement principles.

  • Excellent leadership, communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.

  • Excellent communication skills to engage with diverse communities, stakeholders, researchers and health professionals.

  • Cultural sensitivity and awareness to ensure health programs and services respect and respond to diverse community needs and values.

  • Problem-solving skills to identify and address barriers to participation in health initiatives and community engaged research.

  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse communities and stakeholders.

  • Experience in project management and data evaluation.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Microsoft Teams, social media platforms, and other relevant software.
