FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED: (These may be acquired on the job and are needed to perform the work assigned.)
Knowledge of: the development and implementation of a plan of management and care; therapeutic diets; the setting of a state institution and the rules, regulations and policies inherent in such a setting; physical, occupational and recreational therapies.

Skill in: counseling individual patients/clients and their families; interviewing patients and documenting medical histories.
ENTRY KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS REQUIRED: (Applicants will be screened for possession of these through written, oral, performance and/or other evaluations.)
Knowledge of: planning and providing quality medical care; symptoms of diseases; symptoms of medication reactions; state and federal laws, policies and procedures pertaining to scope of practice of a Nurse Practitioner.
Ability to: understand and interpret medical and diagnostic reports; coordinate services to individual patients/clients; communicate effectively with others.
Skill in: the techniques of medical treatments; establishing effective professional relationships; observation and evaluation; problem solving.
Requirements/Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications: Successful completion of an accredited program for Registered Nurse and Nurse Practitioner. Incumbents must have a current, valid license as a Registered Nurse and be certified as a Nurse Practitioner in the State of Nebraska.

Assesses the health status of patients/clients through comprehensive physical examination and diagnostic procedures to provide for the primary care of patients/clients.
Applies advanced nursing principles to effectively diagnose and treat patients/clients.
Prescribes medications and orders therapeutic treatments related to medical conditions within the scope of practice to provide appropriate patients care.
Formulates, implements, and monitors health management plans and refers patients as medication conditions require for the management of health problems.
Provides education and counseling for patients and families on health promotion, health maintenance, and health restoration for the management of health conditions.
Initiates appropriate interventions in emergency situations until a Physician is available to administer treatment.
