DEPARTMENTAL SUMMARY:
St. Charles Medical Group encompasses practices in three Central Oregon counties and numerous specialties including family care, internal medicine, obstetrics and gynecology, pediatrics, immediate/urgent care, cardiology, pulmonology, rheumatology, general surgery, cancer care, and sleep medicine. We encourage collaboration between clinical and non-clinical staff to assure we are providing our community with comprehensive and compassionate health care.
POSITION OVERVIEW:
The RN-Preoperative Medicine provides support to the provider and patient. Including, providing quality patient and family centered care as a member of the health care team in accordance with St. Charles Health System mission, philosophy, policies, and procedures. Applies standards for professional nursing practice and focuses clinical care to enhance the experience for patients, families and all others. Use triage skills to make appropriate patient health assessments and anticipate physician’s needs regarding patient care.
This position does not directly manage any other caregivers.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES
Deliver customer service and/or patient care in a manner that promotes goodwill, is timely, efficient and accurate. Meticulous attention to detail, excellent communication and listening skills are necessary.
Assesses the patient condition and needs using critical thinking and clinical judgment; implements appropriate nursing action and collaborates with other disciplines to meet the patient’s/family’s physical, emotional, and other needs; and evaluates patient’s progress.
Collaborate on care planning and implementation with physician and physician protocols, and members of the team
Coordinate care for patients in accordance with providers plan and recommendations. Provide counseling to patients regarding nutrition, smoking, and other health related issues.
Proficient in proper clinical and medical documentation within the EMR system
Perform telephone triage; communicates (both written and orally) effectively and maintains a professional relationship with caregivers, medical staff, patients, and guests.
Calculates dosages and administers medications accurately in accordance with the organization’s policies and procedures for medication administration.
Role models two-way communication of the St. Charles Health System mission, vision, values, and strategic plan for the department.

Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Microsoft applications (Outlook, Word, Excel and Access), database management, and document preparation.
Demonstrated ability and experience in computer applications, use of electronic medical record keeping systems and MS Office.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Continually (75% or more): Use of clear and audible speaking voice and the ability to hear normal speech level.
Frequently (50%): Sitting, keyboard operation.
