Unit Description:
5A NICU is a 36-bed private room NICU caring for High-Risk neonates from 28 weeks to full-term.
Job Summary:
The Registered Nurse (RN) implements professional nursing practice centered on the patient as a whole person and the creation of a caring environment focused on healing and wellness.

- Assessment of Patient Needs: Performs and documents a comprehensive assessment in accordance with RNs’ scope of practice and hospital policies/procedures.
- Provision of Direct Care: Fully implements patient care therapies and procedures with empowerment and clinical autonomy within scope of practice in accordance with established policies, procedures, professional guidelines, culture, and age of patient served.
- Management of Patient Care Delivery:
- Sets priorities and coordinates plan of care for multiple patients.
- Organizes workload so there is effective utilization of time and energy relative to patient acuity and patient care processes.
- Support for Quality Care:
- Assures nursing excellence in accordance with accepted standards, evidence -based practice, current research, and caring philosophy.
- Uses a holistic perspective regarding patient care.
- Demonstrates critical thinking and creativity in the handling of patient issues.
- Displays compassion, acceptance, respect, and empathy in relation to others.
Minimum Education, Experience, Training and Licensures Required:
- Current RN licensure or work permit in Kentucky.
- Bachelor's or an associate degree in nursing from an accredited college/university
- Candidate with an associate degree in nursing and less than 10 years of experience must enroll within 12 months of hire in a bachelor’s degree program and must have achieved the degree within 5 years.
- Basic life support
- ACLS/PALS/NRP and successful completion of dysrhythmia class as required by department of Assignment.
