The University of Miami/UHealth Department of SCCC has an exciting opportunity for a Full Time Nurse Specialist to work at the UHealth Medical Campus in Miami, Fl.

CORE SUMMARY

The Nurse Specialist assesses a healthcare facility's nursing practice and its impact on patient outcomes.  Moreover, the incumbent provides direction to nursing staff in the delivery of patient care programs, and acts as a change agent, mentor, and leader. An employee in this position ensures nursing staff sustain an established level of competency.

CORE JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Performs medical tests in patients to diagnose their health condition.
  • Interprets laboratory test results of patients.
  • Recommends treatment plan for patients based on diagnosis.
  • Counsels individuals and patients on positive health practices.
  • Provides the latest cost-effective nursing practices.
  • Collaborates with other team of experts to outline best treatment for patients.
  • Performs holistic evaluation of specialty population, making use of enhanced proven techniques and procedures to achieve better results.
  • Implements the improvement of patient care, and healthcare policies and resources.
  • Mentors other healthcare professionals by functioning as a preceptor or coordinating preceptors for visiting professionals, students, new graduates, and orienteers.
  • Maintains professional knowledge by affiliating with professional and technical organizations, and participating in applicable continuing education programs, conferences, seminars, and workshops.
  • Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Bachelor’s degree in relevant field

Certification and Licensing: Valid Florida RN license Certification in relevant specialty or field

Experience: Minimum 3 years of relevant experience

Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes:

• Ability to maintain effective interpersonal relationships

• Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form

• Skill in collecting, organizing and analyzing data

• Proficiency in computer software (i.e. Microsoft Office) Department Specific Functions

• Manage care of neuroendocrine tumor (NET) patients who qualify for Lutathera® (Lutetium 177 DOTATATE) treatments for gastroenteropancreatic neuroendocrine tumors (GEPNETs).

• Place orders as per MD, for medications, labs, radiology imaging, blood transfusions and consults with other departments/MD’s etc. and follow up to ensure completed.

• Collaborate with multidisciplinary team members, physicians, nurse navigators, pharmacy, and family members to solve patient needs.

• Request medical records/cd’s from outside institutions and doctor’s office. Upload images when needed.

• Review all new patient medical records prior to visit and provide to MD for review and ensure outside slides have been obtained and reviewed prior to patient starting treatment.

• Documents patient care services by charting in patient records.

• Order labs, radiology imaging, and medications as needed and ensure insurance authorizations are approved. If needed, will set up peer to peer reviews for MD to obtain authorizations. For CTU authorizations: send email to Utilization Review to obtain.

• Assist with filling out forms for patients applying for grants and patient assistance programs for medications.

• Coordinate care with research team for research patients

• Checks in-basket for patient messages and triages critical results from in-basket and informs MD
