Overview:

Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, a level one trauma center, is seeking a Registered Nurse for our Surgical Trauma Intensive Care Unit.

Hours/Shift: Full Time (36 hr/week) Night Shift position.

Overview:

The Registered Nursing (RN) is responsible to perform a competent level of nursing care as demonstrated by the critical thinking model known as the nursing process. The standards of practice (assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementation, coordination of care- teaching and health promotion and evaluation) along with the standards of professional performance (ethics, culturally congruent practice, communication, collaboration, leadership, education, evidence- based practice /nursing research, quality, evaluation, resource utilization, and environmental health) encompass the actions and foundation of professional nursing. The RN possesses clinical knowledge and skills to meet standards as required by specific clinical areas.

Department Overview:

  • 16 bed unit
  • Norfolk General Hospital is the only Sentara Facility that performs Kidney/Pancreas Transplants and complex vascular surgeries.
  • Immediate surgical recovery of Kidney and Pancreas Transplant.
  • General Surgical Patients requiring ICU.Management of patients requiring mechanical ventilation.
  • Management of patients requiring CRRT and hemo-dialysis.Vascular: lower extremity revascularization, Abdominal Aortic Aneurism, Mesenteric Artery Repair, EVAR, TEVAR, Lower extremity bypass, revascularization, Carotid Endarectomy and Carotid Stent, EKOS- treatment for DVTs, Medical management of AAA’s and dissections.General
  • Patient Population Served: Adult medical and surgical patients requiring intensive nursing care.
  • Average length of stay 2-3 days, complex patients may be there >30days.

Education

  • Degree or Diploma in Registered Nursing (required)
  • Bachelor of Science Nursing- BSN or MSN (Preferred)

Certification/Licensure

  • Registered nursing License (Required)
  • BLS required within 90 days of hire

Experience

  • Minimum of 1 year emergency, intermediate care, intensive care or med/surg nursing
