Overview
The Associate Instructor works under the supervision of the Program Director and/or Assistant Director and will be assigned a mentor and/or preceptor to aid in faculty orientation. Participates in the development, implementation and evaluation of the philosophy and objectives of their program. Participates in the design, implementation, teaching, evaluation, and revision of the program's curriculum and related educational materials as assigned for the delivery of both residential and distance education course. Assists in the development and evaluation of student admission, progression, retention, graduation and related program and school policies. Accountable for student outcomes, acts as a resource for students, providing support, remediation, academic advisement and counseling, and referral as needed. Actively engages in scholarly pursuits to maintain currency in the base discipline and to enhance metaprofessional skills relative to both residential and distance education methods. Each member of the faculty shall maintain professional competence in their specific discipline through such activities as practice, continuing education programs, conferences, workshops, seminars, academic courses, research projects, and professional writing. Participates in community and institutional service activities which contribute to the mission of RHS and RCHC. Actively engages in the development of instruction skills by completing the Faculty Development Program. Completion of the FDP and satisfactory performance during the first year of employment as an Associate Instructor will lead to promotion to the position of Faculty Instructor. Performs other duties as assigned. Essential functions are fundamental job duties, knowledge, skills and abilities that are necessary to perform the position. For all College Instructor and Staff positions, standards are intended to apply to all educational delivery methods residential, blended and/or distance as feasible.

- Instructors are evaluated on activities that support learning, including instructional design, delivery, assessment, course management, and academic advising.
- Teaching Role – Classroom Observations.
- Teaching Role – Faculty Development Program.
- Teaching Role – Completion of technical competencies.
Qualifications
Education
- Masters Degree, Nursing (Required)
Experience
- 3-4 years Recent (within last 5 years) clinical experience or teaching in the specified field or a combination of the two prior to hire date (Required)
- Experience in a clinical educational setting (Preferred)
- Formal didactic teaching experience (Preferred)
Licenses and Certifications
- Registered Nurse (RN) - Virginia Department of Health Professions (VDHP) (Required)
- CPR/BLS Certification - American Heart Association/American Red Cross/American Safety and Health Institute (AHA/ARC) (Required)
