Job Description:

Minnesota State Community and Technical College is accepting applications for a Nursing Careers Success Navigator. This position is fixed-term (temporary) grant funded through February 2027 and the home campus is to be determined.

This position focuses on enhancing student outreach, retention, and wraparound support for selective admissions programs, with a primary emphasis on Associate Degree Nursing programs college wide. Responsibilities include coordinating outreach efforts to engage prospective, inquiry, and accepted students while collaborating with nursing faculty, pre-nursing advisors, and the selective admissions advising specialist to ensure seamless student support.

The Nursing Careers Success Navigator, under general supervision, serves as a member of a professional team providing comprehensive advising services for students who are: clarifying their academic interests, and pursuing declared major by advising students on multiple areas including curriculum, admissions and enrollment procedures, business office policies, financial aid policies, residency and program requirements. This position works effectively with staff, faculty, and academic departments to meet the goals and objectives of the office division, an institution, as well as participates in program and event development.

Travel to other M State campuses will be required, approximately, as follows:

• Monthly: 3-6 times /month

This is a grant funded position (PATH-MN). Continuation of this position after the conclusion of the PATH-MN grant will be dependent upon securing appropriate funding. The grant expires February 2027.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide holistic advising and success coaching for students throughout their academic career at M State.  
  • Collaborate with college faculty, staff, administration, and external partners to support the M State mission, vision, values, and strategic plan.

  • Develop and implement college-wide and campus-specific strategies to increase retention and persistence.
  • Facilitate non-credit workshops to better prepare students for the first day of classes.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to meet PATH-MN grant requirements.
  • Support for campus and college operations.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 1 year of professional experience in any of the following: advising, counseling, academic coaching, higher education student success focus, working with diverse populations, or human services. A bachelor’s degree may substitute for 1 year experience, an associate’s degree may substitute for 6 months experience.
  • Customer service skills sufficient to actively listen to and understand customer needs and provide accurate information and appropriate alternatives in a timely, thorough, courteous, respectful, and professional manner.
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse and traditionally underserved backgrounds.
  • Problem solving skills with the ability to set priorities, reason analytically, determine alternative solutions, and analyze and interpret information with a high degree of accountability and accuracy.
  • Experience using Customer Relationship Management system, computer software applications and systems sufficient to enter data and create basic business correspondence, document interactions and training presentations.
  • Communication, both oral and written, in individual and group settings via phone or in person, sufficient to motivate students and influence behavior or turn a situation around and work with colleagues in a cooperative and respectful manner.   • Ability to explain and help interpret complex policies involving multiple departments, systems, and levels, such as records and registration, support programs, financial aid, business services, bookstore, and admissions (this is not an exhaustive).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in education, social sciences, higher education, human services, or related field.
  • Familiarity with higher education and/or Minnstate educational policies and procedures, programs and curriculum, services, and resources for admissions, financial aid, support programs, records and registration to assist students in making sound career and educational decisions.
  • Experience working in a two-year community and technical college setting.
  • Experience working with student record systems, project management and specialty software such as DARS, ImageNow, Customer Relations Management Systems, and Office 365.
  • Familiarity with research design, interpreting data, and making data driven decisions.
